Want... China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) announced the inauguration of the 1,344-kilometer-long Benguela Railway in Angola on Feb. 14, which links up the western coastal city of Lobito and the eastern border city of Luau, reports our Chinese-language sister paper Commercial Times.
The Benguela Railway, which has 67 stops and crosses 42 bridges, is reportedly the most efficient and quickest way to travel through Angola by train, according to Reuters. The railway is also connected to other routes to DR Congo and Zambia.
The railway is said helping Angola with both tourism and trade.
The construction project that started in 2004 cost roughly US$1.83 billion, according to Commercial Times. Trains running on the line have a top speed 90 kilometer per hour. It is projected to be linked with railways in Zambia and Tanzania.
The Benguela Railway is the longest railway that China has constructed abroad.
