If anyone out of a uniform was caught stealing ammunition, they would face serious consequences. But not rookie cop Stephen Sargent. Sargent was busted stealing ammunition at an Academy sporting goods store near Houston, Texas.
A Harris County sheriffs deputy was seen by customers arresting a fellow law enforcement officer who was using his badge and uniform to get away with stealing ammunition, because it was too expensive.
A spokesman for the Harris County Sheriffs Department said that Sargent was arrested at the Academy Sports and Outdoors store after being caught on camera stealing around $60 worth of ammunition.
I cant imagine why he would be doing something like that, Chris Kelly, a customer who saw the officer being arrested said. You think that he would have the legal means.
Sargent was only with the department for a few months. Oddly enough, the department says that they provide officers with ammunition for training, free of charge.
Obviously he shouldnt t need it for his job, says Kelly.
Im shocked, Tracy Wollney, another customer who witnessed the booking said But not really, these days. Pretty crazy.
In spite of how crazy it is, were told that Sargent will keep his job.
After months of litigation the DA has decided not to prosecute based on the officers long and distinguished carrer of service to the community. / end sarc.
