In response to the ATF’s determined march toward banning the M855 round for law-abiding citizens, Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI) has introduced legislation to eliminate the ATF altogether.

Sensenbrenner’s bill is titled the ATF Elimination Act.

According to The Hill, Sensenbrenner says the ATF as a “scandal-ridden” agency “that lacks a clear mission.” He describes it as a “largely duplicative agency” and suggests the agency’s role on “guns, explosives, and violent crime” could be carried out the FBI. He believes the agency’s work on alcohol and tobacco could be transferred to the DEA.

He said the ATF’s attempt to ban the M855 round is “an affront to the Second Amendment and yet another reason” Congress should disband the agency.

Sensenbrenner’s bill would give the ATF director “180 days… to submit a plan to Congress on how to wind down the agency.”

Representative John Conyers (D-MI) first proposed disbanding the ATF in 1993.

Poster Comment:

First time I have ever heard (or read) that John Conyers ever had a sensible thought in his life. I will give him credit for that since I have maintained for a long time that ATF should be a convenience store, not a government agency.

The BATFE is where you go if you don't have the intelligence quotient to make it in the CIA/NSA/FBI when you take the Federal examination.

I'm in favor of removing the "F" from the jurisdiction of the BATFE, those monkeys have no business dictating what firearms/ammo The People may purchase.

I'm in favor of abolishing the whole agency along with a bunch of other useless and wasteful government agencies. The TSA and the Departments of Education and Energy for a couple of examples.

You do not disband the agency, you repeal the laws that the agency follows. Defund the agency, problem solved

They could do both. Get rid of a useless, duplicative agency. And then they could get rid of some more that aren't needed and for which you couldn't find authorization for in the Constitution if you looked from now 'til the end of time.
