A great many of us pride ourselves on the subtlety of our minds, and on recognizing the complexities, both moral and practical, of the world, and this is a very good impulse. But when this impulse is raised to the level of dogma, it risks obscuring more than it clarifies. There are some occasions–yes, few, but some–when the moral calculus is exceedingly simple. I used to have a great personal interest in the policy detail of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. I could lecture at length on the subtleties of Camp David, Taba, the Road Map; on the different kinds of settlements; on the security barrier, its precise shape and contours; on the various UN resolutions; on the history of Fatah and Hamas. By now, like Lord Palmerston and the Schleswig-Holstein Question, I have forgotten most of the details. What I have not forgotten is the following: the State of Israel is a democracy with the rule of law and respect for human rights (yes, imperfect, unlike the United States and Europe, which, as we all know, are perfect); demonic hatred of Jews is a real and persistent fact of history and when left unchecked it always leads to atrocities; this demonic hatred is absolutely clearly distilled into the enemies of Israel; and most, most importantly this: if tomorrow Hamas, Hizbullah and other enemies of Israel dropped their weapons, peace would break out; if tomorrow Israel dropped its weapons, a genocide would break out. There is, there can be, no moral equivalency. Sometimes there really are Good Guys and Bad Guys. That the Palestinians are weak and poor while Israel is comparatively strong and rich changes nothing. That Israel is often unwise and, yes, occasionally criminal, changes nothing. To take a purposefully provocative analogy: yes, during World War II, the Allies (even excepting the Soviet Union) committed war crimes. The strategic bombing of Germany and the atom bombing of Hiroshima and Nagazaki were war crimes. Elizabeth Anscombe was right to denounce Truman. It nonetheless remains true that if you lived through World War II and pretexted of Allied crimes to portray the sides as morally equivalent, or to refuse to take sides, you were guilty of moral cretinism and cowardice. This is a conflict where there really are Good Guys and Bad Guys and to pretend otherwise is indefensible. The chief culprit of the plight of the Palestinians is not Israel but the terrorists and fanatics who use them as tools of their ravenous bloodlust. Golda Meir was right then, and is right now. The conflict will end when the enemies of Israel start loving their children more than they hate Israel. Yes, it really is that simple.

The monarchic case for Bush 2016 Pascal-Emmanuel Gobry is no fan of the Republic, but he'd crown Jeb. The prospect of a 2016 race between Jeb Bush and Hillary Clinton understandably fills our commentators with existential despair. It doesn't look good for a democracy, especially one that prides itself on its equal opportunity and meritocracy, to have the wife of a former president run against the brother and son of a former president. It looks more like a scenario out of a banana republic than the great United States of America. At least that's what I think on most days. But on some days... On some days, I think back on Athens, the Roman Republic, Venice, and 19th century Great Britain, and realize that all of the West's most successful empires were aristocratic and plutocratic republics. Maybe a country of the size, complexity, and power of the United States can't be a democracy. Maybe a country of the size, complexity, and power of the United States shouldn't be a democracy. And, after all, the U.S. is clearly moving beyond democracy on its own power. An ineffective legislature, a power-grabbing executive, a strong state, a Praetorian guard — all of this is looking very late Roman Republic. Maybe a line of succession would just make things official. And Rome still had a couple more centuries of greatness ahead of it after its turn to caesarism. Maybe Jeb Bush isn't the man America needs in spite of his last name. Maybe he's the man America needs because of his last name. Think of all the advantages he brings as a princeling.
BS. Israel is stealing land from Palestinians. They jailed a woman for 6 months without trial. They kill Palestinian children. They torture children. They get America to fight their wars. And they get aid. Israel is not a rich country. The US should not be involved. We should cut off all aid but first force Israel out of all occupied territories. Why is it Jews have been found to be the subject of shunning throughout history? Are they doing anything to bring this on themselves, or is it just bad luck? When it happens time and time again in various parts of the world, from many different cultures and countless generations, one should ask what the common denominator is, and it's not the people doing the hating. I remember one phone conversation I had with Goldi-lox, a converted Jew. She told me quite sympathetically that Jews were not permitted to charge other Jews interest on loans. It occurred to me if whites did this, it would be considered racism. There is a lot of stereotyping of Jews being envious of money and power. Perhaps this is an offshoot of general Old Testament sentiment that teaches that this people, allegedly chosen of God, have a natural right to live at the expense of non-Jews, who are lessor beings. I can certainly see such a belief and a lifestyle that conforms to it, if it reaches endemic levels, being a cause for Jews to be hated. Many ethnic groups in the US have gone though a time of being despised, such as the Irish. But eventually such groups earn their respect and place. But it seems the Jews thoughout history are never quite so successful, at least until now. I imagine you won't respond to me on this. It's easy to believe you are paid to post here to give some positive sentiment to the Jewish cause. Maybe you aren't but it's easy for me to believe, as I believe we had one here before. And such financed PR activity is a practice carried out by not just Israel but by many different governments, each furthering their own interests...

I stand for Israel and have been paying close attention to President Obama's talks with Iran re an armistice on nuclear bombs and for inspections to be enforced on Iran following this treaty because we all know that Iran wants to wipe Israel off the face of this earth. Any nations and peoples who join in with Iran to wipe Israel off may as well be followers of the antichrist. This was long predicted in biblical scripture. It is true that Israel has a history of pagan worship and enraging God but Israel was long chosen by God as His people to set an example for the rest of the world to follow according to God's commandments and His elected feasts. This goes all the way back to Exodus where Moses led the Jews out of Egypt to escape their bondage from the Egyptian Pharoahs. Not all the Jews are righteous people but their biblical customs were set in stone by God for the rest of the world to observe. They even conspired to kill their own King of the Jews (Jesus Christ). Since this has all passed, the Roman Church took over when they conquered Israel and changed the Jewish feasts and observances by converting into a Gregorian Calendar rather than abiding by the Jewish calender. The difference between the two calendars is that the Jewish calendar focuses on the lunar months whereas the Gregorian calendar is one that most of Europe and the United States recognize as the calendar focused on the solar months. Even the biblical feasts dates are way off from that of the Jewish calendar. This was introduced to the people to change the Jewish feasts days to confuse the people but its true intended purpose was to mock and persecute those who still abide by the Jewish calendar and God's commandments re those feasts dates which He ordained as holy. The true haters of the Jewish feasts and people are those who desire to wipe these people and God's laws off the face of this Earth. We are seeing this happen and when we see this happen, we know we are the last generation living in the last days on Earth.

Today's Rabbis claim to have descended in an unbroken lineage from the pharisees. Jesus said of these pharisees "your laws make my Father's Laws of NO EFFECT" ! (Jesus also said they were of "their father" the devil. [John 8:38-47) Absolutely correct. Jesus would never look to the Talmud as the appropriate guide for His people. In fact, He viewed the Talmud as an abomination and the works of the devil. Furthermore, Jesus did say that the only Father you shall honor is the Heavenly Father and never address anybody else as your Father, Rabbi, Pastor, Priest, for their laws are the laws of man and are truly inferior to the Heavenly Fathers laws.
