The 1 Thing This GOP Hopeful Has that the Other Contenders Dont
When favorite Florida Senator Marco Rubio threw his hat in the ring for the Republican presidential nomination, he galvanized his followers with his belief in American exceptionalism and his inspiring family story. He also brought with him one thing any viable candidate must have: the ability to raise the money he must have to run.
Rubio announced the day after Hillary Clinton released her announcement video for the Democratic candidacy. Speaking at Freedom Tower in Miami, Rubio said:
Just yesterday, a leader from yesterday began a campaign for president by promising to take us back to
yesterday. But yesterday is over, and we are never going back.
Rubio is the son of Cuban immigrants who believed in the American dream, despite their humble origins. He quoted his father in Spanish:
En este pais, ustedes van a poder lograr todas las cosas que nosotros no pudimos.
(Translation: In this country, you will be able to accomplish all the things we never could.)
He also addressed the idea expressed by some Republicans that he should run later, particularly because of his relative youth:
I have heard some suggest that I should step aside and wait my turn. But I cannot, because I believe our very identity as an exceptional nation is at stake, and I can make a difference as President.
Breitbart News has reported that Republican Paul Singer, a Wall Street billionaire, is actively fundraising for Rubio. Singer runs the hedge fund Elliott Management Corporation, and his personal net worth is estimated at $2 billion. He donated $1 million to the Super PAC Restore our Future to support Mitt Romneys run in 2011, and he has supported a number of Republican causes and candidates over the years. He helped George W. Bush win the presidency, and he contributed to Rudy Giuliani in 2008.
According to Brietbart News:
Singer helping Rubio is a coup in the quest for donors among 2016 candidates, as Singer is known for being extraordinarily active in terms of pushing his wealthy friends to also support the candidates and causes he does.
Rubios presidential campaign announcement makes him the third Republican in the presidential race. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, and Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky have both announced their candidacies in recent weeks.
Poster Comment:
I like Rubio, and he has the best interests of this country at heart.
