Mexico Demands U.S. Allow More Immigration Jan 10 2:09 AM US/Eastern Email this story

By MARK STEVENSON Associated Press Writer

MEXICO CITY

Diplomats from Mexico and Central America on Monday demanded guest worker programs and the legalization of undocumented migrants in the United States, while criticizing a U.S. proposal for tougher border enforcement.

Meeting in Mexico's capital, the regional officials pledged to do more to fight migrant trafficking, but indirectly condemned a U.S. bill that would make illegal entry a felony and extend border walls.

"Migrants, regardless of their migratory status, should not be treated like criminals," they said.

The countries represented at the meeting _ including Mexico, Nicaragua, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Belize and Panama _ created a working group to design a regional policy to avoid migrant abuse and to follow the course of the legislation.

"There has to be an integrated reform that includes a temporary worker program, but also the regularization of those people who are already living in receptor countries," Mexican Foreign Relations Secretary Luis Ernesto Derbez said.

Derbez has called the measure _ which passed the U.S. House of Representatives last month but still must go before the Senate _ "stupid and underhanded," but was somewhat more restrained on Monday, saying "it's not the Mexican government's position to tell the U.S. Senate what to do."

The U.S. proposal has caused widespread resentment in Mexico, where some have accused President Vicente Fox's administration of not being assertive enough in opposing it. Fox has called the bill shameful.

Mexicans working in the United States are a huge source of revenue for Mexico, sending home more than $16 billion in remittances in 2004, Mexico's second largest source of foreign currency after oil exports according to the country's central bank.

Fox's spokesman, Ruben Aguilar, defended the administration's record on Monday, telling reporters that migration has declined in recent years, though official figures show it remains at historically high levels.

Aguilar also said migrants "don't emigrate because they lack work, but rather for a series of other reasons, cultural reasons or better living conditions." Subscribe to *You Gotta Be Shitting Me*

Aguilar also said migrants "don't emigrate because they lack work, but rather for a series of other reasons, cultural reasons or better living conditions."

Okay, what are those cultural reasons then??? Oh that's right... They're total racists. That's right folks, Hispanics are so completely racist it's not even funny. The lighter the skin you have, the higher you are on the social food chain. Watch Univision once in a while and you'll see exactly what I'm saying is true.

In all honesty, the idea of being forced to take more immigrants from Mexico, is an affront to our country being sovereign. You will take our people and like it, or else.

Horse shit, and the worst part about it, is that we're not getting cheap or free oil out of the deal.

What's that Mr. Nipples? You want me to ask the nice lady about her rack?.

How about we just shoot the Mexicans instead. Then bill them for the bullets, and transportation costs, casket etc.

If you measured the mexican nation in 1970 and looked at those people and their direct descendants today you will find that about 30% or even 35% now live in the US. today there are public schools where I live in Arizona, right in phoenix area where spanish is spoken in all classrooms as a first language and english is not spoken. and americans born here who speak english go to those schools and they don't get any education at all. they sit and listen to spanish all day long. In one neighborhood where I know an American man whose children are in such a school it is an ordinary suburban neighborhood dominated by large single family homes. People buy there and then the schools go spanish language and then they are not allowed to send their children anywhere else. these are public schools.

you're right. and almost all the mexican immigrants the last 20 years are dark skinned too. I know a woman who came to the US from Mexico where she was born (she was Mexican), but she came back in the 1950's when she was young. She is white and while she was born in mexico and spoke spanish first she has spoken english as her first language for decades and is indistinguishable from a european american.

Didn't we hang Germans caught sneaking into the country back in the 40's? Seriously, folks...we can't afford this...this country is going to implode if we don't put a stop to illegal immigration.

I know an american man who is 83 years old, but born in Germany and emmigrated to the US with his family via canada around 1930 when he was a little boy with his family. They came illegally. The judge almost through his family out as the judge concluded they were illegal. but he let them stay. he founded the company that I am employed by now.

today there is more german blood in the american genetic stock than english. maybe in 2 generations the mexicans will overtake both german and english.

How the hell did it get to a point where a rathole like Mexico is "demanding" things of the United States? In a previous and better generation, if they had done such a thing, the POTUS would have sent an army brigade over there to tell the little tin god in charge to STFU.

They might have done it prior to the civil war, but not after. Of course that was when we still HAD a country that was sovereign.

This is so true and the sad part is that our so-called "leaders" of this country just do not care. Even though the American citizens are loudly screaming for the borders to be controlled, our president just ignores the situation. He should have jumped down Vicinte Fox's throat for making demands on the US, instead he chose to ignore the Mexican government's demands, act like it never even happened. I wonder what Bush would do if any other country made these demands? I think Bush and Fox are better buddies than we realize and they are two of a kind, looking out for themselves only.

Secure our borders, save our nation!
