Theoretical physicist and cosmologist Stephen Hawking warns that if the human race does not leave the planet and start to live in space, humanity will die out.

The renowned British scientist made the comments while giving a holographic speech at the Sydney Opera House in Australia, the Independent reported on Monday.

"We must continue to go into space for the future of humanity," Hawking said, "I don't think we will survive another 1,000 years without escaping beyond our fragile planet."

The eminent scientist used holographic technology to give the speech from his office in Cambridge, England. Stephen Hawking’s hologram and physicist Paul Daviesto at the Sydney opera house on April 25, 2015

“Although I would love to be there in person,” he said during his opening speech to the audience, “the idea of being the first person to appear as a hologram at the stage at the Opera House was too good an offer to refuse.”

“Be curious, and however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at. It matters that you don’t just give up,” he added.

Hawking has repeatedly warned the human race over the danger it is placing itself by progressing the rise of artificial intelligence and aggression.

The only way to ensure the continuity of the human race is to colonize other planets, the scientist noted back in February.

At the end of his holographic speech, Hawkins called on the audience to “look at up at the stars and not down at your feet”.

Thank you for sharing this. If you don't mind, I'll add it to the Hingeless Hawking file.

"This fragile planet".... gee, wonder how it got that way? Liberal eggheads like him telling never tire of telling us how insignificant we are because earth existed for bajillions of umptillions of years before we showed up and how we've ruined the biosphere, but they don't connect the dots.

I agree with him that we're wrecking this planet, but would disagree with his notion that our reward should be getting other globes to play on. Not to mention the fact that the whole idea is utterly loony, evoking an old Jew joke...

The Italians announced they were sending their first rocket into space -- to the sun. "Are you crazy?" other countries asked. "Your astronauts will be burned!" "Not to worry," came the reply. "We're launching it at night."

Hawking reminds me of the guy in the Star Trek wheelchair that can only flash lights for yes or no.
