Want... A Shanghai-based artist, Dai Jianyong, has been detained for creating an image of Chinese president Xi Jinping that had been distorted to resemble an anus and was then decorated with a Hitler moustache, reports RFI Chinese.
Dai is a photographer in Shanghai, who is known for his technique of distorting faces to resemble "chrysanthemums," a common slang word for the anus in China. He published the image of Xi on Instagram, Chinese social networking app WeChat, as well as printing it on t-shirts and suitcases.
Dai's attorney, Liu Xiaoyuan condemned the arrest.
Dai's case is not the first of this kind. Sixteen artists were detained during the Beijing Independent Film Festival because they expressed support for the Umbrella Movement democracy protests in Hong Kong.
