Federal agents raided 37 locations, including three businesses, in Southern California on Tuesday morning, for running “birth tourism” companies.

Now there’s nothing wrong with wanting to emigrate to the US, or with babies born in the US getting American citizenship.

But lets be clear, these women aren’t Fievel Mousekewitz, just trying to find freedom and achieve the American dream. They’re already rich, mostly the wives of corrupt officials planning an escape route out of China 21 years down the road.

Unfortunately, their money is too dirty to just buy citizenship through America’s EB5 investment program, and they don’t want to slog through America’s immigration process with the proletariat.

Instead, the women pay $60,000 to a “birth tourism” outfit, which coaches them on sneaking their baby bump past immigration authorities, then hides mom in a luxurious accommodation until the baby is born in a hospital. They even supply Chinese speaking nannies to swaddle the newborns.

The baby gets an American birth certificate and passport, then everyone flies back to China.

The US has a long history of discrimination against Chinese immigrants, but Tuesday’s raids aren’t more of that. If these wealthy Chinese families can show they earned their money legally, they should have no problems making it through the regular immigration channels.

Published on Dec 3, 2012 Anchor babies! Chino Hills protests against Chinese maternity hotel! Dozens of people protested Saturday in Chino Hills against a home that allegedly has been illegally operating as a birthing center. They claim pregnant Chinese women are flying in to give birth so their babies will be American citizens. In Chinese culture, it is common for mothers to drink 'postpartum soup' for a month at a 'maternity hotel'. But this has angered Chino Hills residents. They don't want the maternity hotel in their suburb and have complained of zoning violations. When an anchor baby turns 21, she can petition the US government for her parents to live in the US as permanent residents. But it's not entirely what you think. These parents are wealthy. They don't need your social services. For many Chinese parents, anchor babies are an insurance policy, just in case political and social upheaval return to China.

there’s nothing wrong with ... babies born in the US getting American citizenship.

It's a form of kidnapping that could possibly obstruct those born here to foreign parents from leadership roles after adulthood in a country of their parents' citizenship if dual or multiple citizenships would prevent that. Every foreigner who has a baby born here might not expect the birth to happen before returning to their country of origin or want their child to be acquisitioned as an American.

I was going to take that same quote and rip it up. There's EVERYTHING wrong with anchor babyhood!!!!

But what we also need is a crackdown on people treating the word crackdown as a verb. >:-|
