Want..

China is the world's largest hydro power producer and is expected to share its technology with the world despite challenges at home, according to the China Economic Weekly.

During the World Hydropower Congress (WHC) in Beijing from May 19 to 21, International Hydropower Association (IHA) president Ken Adams said China is becoming a hydropower superpower.

China's installed hydropower capacity of 300 million kilowatts (300 gigawatts) led the world and accounted for 27% of global capacity in 2014, the magazine said.

The Three Gorges Dam Hydroelectric Power Plant set a world record by generating 98.8 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in 2014, the highest annual output of any power station, the magazine said.

In addition, Power Construction Corp of China (PowerChina) is the world's largest builder of electricity plants and has projects in over 100 countries involving installed capacity of more than 100 million kilowatts.

Former Nigerian president Goodluck Jonathan once said that where there is PowerChina, there is light and prosperity.

Given that around 20% of the world's population is still without power, the IHA forecast during the recent WHC in Beijing that the total installed capacity of hydropower facilities will double to 2,050 gigawatts by 2050.

Adams said China's Silk Road Economic Belt and 21st Century Maritime Silk Road initiatives will allow the country to take part in more overseas hydropower projects.

Asia, Africa and South America will be key battlegrounds for hydro projects around the world, the IHA said.

Liu Qi, deputy chief of China's National Energy Administration (NEA), said hydropower technology is the most mature and economical among various types of renewable clean energy, which will help China and the world in their efforts to adjust energy mixes.

Despite the opportunities presented by overseas markets, China's hydropower sector is facing several challenges at home, the magazine said.

One of the problems is the large amount of water not being used to generate electricity, as has been reported in Sichuan and Yunnan provinces.

According to a report by the NEA, Sichuan hydropower plants released water that could have generated 9.68 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in 2014.

The underuse of water was largely attributed to the rapid expansion of the hydropower sector, the slow growth in local demand, lagging infrastructure to deliver electricity to other regions and the continuous use of thermal power during the high water season.

Huaneng Lancang River Hydropower chairman Wang Yongxiang suggested that restrictions between regions connected to the national electricity grid should be eliminated so that electricity can be sent to the country's more developed eastern part.

Another challenge, the magazine said, involves the relocation of residents in a hydropower project, which can make or break a project.

PowerChina chair Yan Zhiyong said most new hydropower projects are in western China, where it is unclear if the responsibility for relocation falls on the companies or the government.

Another example where American industrial entrepreneurship is waning and China is winning but then Chinese politicians don't have to depend on Jews for election to office.

Give 'em time. They're getting totally amerikanized, and that starts with A and that rhymes with J and that stands for JEW! It's been years since the first news story I saw (illustrated) about BREAK-DANCING classes held in China, so Jewmerican anti-culture is already blighting the place.
