TORONTO (JTA) — Recorded anti-Semitic incidents reached an all-time high in Canada last year, indicates B’nai Brith’s annual audit.

The yearly tally, released June 11, shows there were 1,627 reported anti-Semitic incidents in 2014, a 28 percent increase over the year before. .... The previous record was 1,345 incidents in 2012.

Most cases last year – 84 percent or 1,370 incidents – involved harassment; there were 238 reported incidents of vandalism, or 15 percent of all cases; and 1 percent of recorded incidents, or 19 cases, involved violence.

Reported incidents of vandalism in 2014 declined over the year before by nearly 40 percent. But cases of harassment increased by nearly 30 percent.

Overall, most incidents – 961 – were in Ontario, followed by Quebec and Atlantic Canada at 259. That is “consistent with years past,” BBC stated.

n July and December, coinciding with the kidnapping of three Israeli teenagers and July’s Israeli ground offensive against Palestinian militants in Gaza.

The summer incidents “mirror what has occurred in previous years when Israel is in a state of conflict,” the audit stated.

Harassment case led to cop shooting in Edmonton. Fridge repairman began harassing his former work buddy after buddy told him he was Jewish. When 8-member "swat" team arrived to serve warrant for hate crime and bylaws infractions and began battering down door, repairman fire shots from inside, downing two cops, one fatally. Would have been better to invite the guy for coffee at a doughnut shop, work out a plan to get anger and other troubles under control.

EDMONTON -- Norman Raddatz railed online about police, courts and paying taxes and spewed derogatory terms about black people and homosexuals.

The 42-year-old refrigerator repairman is suspected of killing an Edmonton officer earlier this week, when the constable showed up with an arrest warrant at Raddatz's front door. Police believe Raddatz died in his home shortly after the shooting as the home went up in flames.

A source says Raddatz had a Facebook account under the name Dino Stomper.

In May and August of 2014, parking tickets were posted on the page for vehicles parked outside Raddatz's bungalow. Two tickets were for an old motorhome that was eventually towed because it had been parked too long on the street.

Raddatz complained it had been stolen.

"Unlawful seizure without warrant or just cause, and I was threatened with arrest!!" he wrote, adding those against him would be held accountable for trespassing and harassment.

"They will have to drag me to court by force. I will not voluntarily enter a corrupt admiralty court."

Police have said they were investigating Raddatz for anti-Semitic bullying of an Edmonton man and his family dating back to February 2014. They feared for their safety and filed a complaint a few months ago.

Eight officers went to Raddatz's home on Monday night and bullets started flying through the front door. Const. Daniel Woodall, a 35-year-old officer in the hate-crimes unit, was killed. A second officer was shot in the back but survived because of his bullet-proof vest.

EDMONTON -- Moments before he died in a barrage of bullets, Const. Daniel Woodall had been chatting with a man about whether his neighbour who was under investigation for hate crimes might have any guns.

Norman Raddatz was a 42-year-old refrigerator repairman -- a divorced father with money problems, who didn't cut the grass around his west Edmonton bungalow and put dog poop on the top of his fence to irritate those living next door.

Ryan Colton didn't know much more about him, other than that he had a small dog.

"As far as guns, I said, 'I don't know.' That's all I could give him for info."

Woodall and seven other city officers, half of them in plainclothes, then approached Raddatz's home about 8 p.m. Monday. They knocked and announced themselves, and when no one answered, Woodall started using a battering ram on the front door, said Colton.

During the third blow, gunshots rang out, he said.

Woodall, a 35-year-old officer recruited from Great Britain, suffered a fatal, "catastrophic wound" despite wearing body armour, Chief Rod Knecht told reporters Tuesday.

He said another officer, the first at the door, was shot and wounded in the lower back as he turned around. Sgt. Jason Harley, 38, was wearing a bullet-proof vest and it saved his life.

Officers carried the wounded officer to the front corner of Colton's yard, where he helped by pressing a cloth onto the bleeding wound before an ambulance arrived.

For about 10 minutes, no one could escape the gunfire.

The remaining officers took cover behind vehicles until the bullets stopped flying.

In all, officers counted 53 bullet holes in the house and a garage across the street. A Second World War veteran, who were dozing in front of the TV, and his wife, who was working on a puzzle, were remarkably not hit.

Soon after, a fire started in the house where the shots came from and it burned to the ground. Police later found a body in the basement they believe was Raddatz. An autopsy will be done to determine a cause of death.

Knecht said police didn't fire any rounds during the shooting.

Investigators believe Raddatz used a large-bore rifle, a powerful gun that carries big bullets and is often used to hunt big game.

Knecht said police didn't expect violence when they showed up, adding that sending eight officers is typical for a criminal call.

The officers had an outstanding arrest warrant for Raddatz for a bylaw offence, and were also going to serve him with documents ordering him to appear in court for criminal harassment dating back to February 2014.

"The online hatred and bullying of an Edmonton family had become extreme and the family members were increasingly worried about their personal safety," he said. No other details were offered about the family.

Knecht added that Raddatz was known to police but did not have an extensive criminal record.

Colton said Raddatz was a terrible neighbour who didn't take care of his house, "but I didn't think he would go this far."

Court documents show Raddatz was charged last year with seven bylaw offences, including parking an unattached trailer, abandoning vehicles and causing a nuisance on land. He had $550 in outstanding fines.

Records also reveal he and his wife divorced in 2012. They have three sons, 21, 19 and 14.

Raddatz ran a company called North Summit Mechanical out of his house, but neighbours said he had stopped working and drank a lot. A bank had also foreclosed on the home and it was for sale for $400,000.

Sgt. Maurice Brodeur with the Edmonton Police Association said it's impossible to imagine what Raddatz was thinking, but his life appeared to be crumbling around him. Then police showed up at his door.

Just by wearing a uniform, an officer can become the focus of anger, he said.

Neighbours have described him as an unfriendly, divorced father who drank, was out of work and didn't take care of his home. He had a small dog and sometimes put dog feces on top of his fence to irritate those living next door.

Court documents show a bank had foreclosed on his house and it was for sale.

"By the time we've paid the mortgage, filled the fridge, paid utilities, paid insurance and filled the fuel tanks, we've been taxed at over 80%," said another Facebook post. "Most forget that all purchases have hidden taxes. Example: a green pepper should not cost $1.99 at Safeway."

Raddatz noted that American families are evicted from foreclosed homes at gunpoint by SWAT teams.

He referred to police as "pigs" and homosexuals as "sodomites" and exchanged messages with a friend against Jewish people.

He liked music by Sarah McLachlan and, although Rihanna is a "talented girl," described her using a racial slur.

A former co-worker has said Raddatz had a reputation as a racist. Another former colleague, the man who made the hate-crime complaint against him, declined an interview.

Raddatz had 15 friends listed on Facebook, including one believed to be his dog.

Alana Holtby, another friend, wrote a post on her Facebook page the day after the shooting: "Mental illness and depression can make the world a very dark place, and I'm sorry that none of us could have made it a little bit brighter for you.

"I know that the officer deserves just as much respect. But today I will mourn you Norm and I will be there for everyone that knew you."

Canada just isn't trying hard enough. I suggest they enact laws against usury if they really want to show they are on board with the new left.
