In 1975, Deutschendorf was awarded the Country Music Association's Entertainer of the Year award. At the ceremony, the outgoing Entertainer of the Year Charlie Rich presented the award to his successor, but in protest of what he considered the inappropriateness of Deutschendorf's selection, Rich set fire to the envelope containing the official notification of the award.

That would be my guess; if it ain't Nashville and Grand Ol' Opry, it ain't Country.

Perhaps X-15 can shed some more light on this as, I suspect, he may be closer to Country than I've been.
