Obama Doesn’t Want You Talking about Guns – Here’s What He’s Doing to Stop It
This honestly should not come as a shock to us. Deep down though, I had held out hope that someone, somewhere in the chain of command had a modicum of common sense and respect for the United States Constitution left. Alas that hope was crushed upon reading that POTUS is once again reaching well around the Constitution in a plan to crush the first amendment in regards to our second amendment.
“Online blogs, videos, and web forums devoted to the technical aspects of firearms and ammunition” could “become subject to prior review by State Department bureaucrats before they can be published.” The State Department says it is simply clarifying existing rules regarding international arms trafficking, specifically, the NRA said, rules concerning “technical data” posted online or otherwise “released” into the “public domain.”
“To the contrary, however, the proposal would institute a massive new prior restraint on free speech,” the NRA said. “This is because all such releases would require the ‘authorization’ of the government before they occurred. The cumbersome and time-consuming process of obtaining such authorizations, moreover, would make online communication about certain technical aspects of firearms and ammunition essentially impossible.”
This stated plan would effectively gag gun bloggers, YouTube producers, or gun enthusiasts from writing about or discussing guns, ammunition and training. Hefty punishment, in the form of jail time (20 years) and staggering fines ($1 MILLION. Not a typo there- MILLION) would be the consequence for defying the censorship. Pretty steep punishments from folks who claimed that we could keep our guns.
