Rick Santorum Says We Have a Right to Push Back if Supreme Court Gets This 1 Thing Wrong
Republican Presidential candidate Rick Santorum appeared on Meet the Press where Chuck Todd questioned him on the issue of same-sex marriage. Specifically, Todd invited the former Senator to respond to Governor Mike Huckabees statement that would call for states to act to disregard any ruling that would force legal same-sex marriage on states.
Its important to understand the Supreme Court doesnt have the final word. It has its word, its word has validity, but its important for the congress and the President to push back when the Supreme Court gets it wrong, Santorum said.
Todd pressed further, If they [the Supreme Court] legalize same-sex marriage for the entire country, do you accept that ruling, or do you fight it?
Well, of course Id fight it. Roe vs. Wade was decided thirty-some years ago and I continue to fight that because I think the court got it wrong. I think if the court decides this case in error, I will continue to fight as we have on the issue of life.
Thats the role of the citizenry. Were not bound by what nine people say in perpetuity. We have an obligation and a right, in a free society, to push back.
When asked if he agreed with Huckabees call for states to disregard a Supreme Court ruling, he said, I dont advocate civil disobedience, I do advocate the role of an informed citizenry to try to overturn when a court makes a mistake and gets an issue wrong.

And Thomas Jefferson said, "We need to have a revolution every 20 years, just to keep the government honest." We are a bit behind schedule.
