Rick Santorum Says We Have a Right to Push Back if Supreme Court Gets This 1 Thing Wrong

Republican Presidential candidate Rick Santorum appeared on Meet the Press where Chuck Todd questioned him on the issue of same-sex marriage. Specifically, Todd invited the former Senator to respond to Governor Mike Huckabee’s statement that would call for states to act to disregard any ruling that would force legal same-sex marriage on states.

“It’s important to understand the Supreme Court doesn’t have the final word. It has its word, its word has validity, but it’s important for the congress and the President to push back when the Supreme Court gets it wrong,” Santorum said.

Todd pressed further, “If they [the Supreme Court] legalize same-sex marriage for the entire country, do you accept that ruling, or do you fight it?”

“Well, of course I’d fight it. Roe vs. Wade was decided thirty-some years ago and I continue to fight that because I think the court got it wrong. I think if the court decides this case in error, I will continue to fight as we have on the issue of life. ”

“That’s the role of the citizenry. We’re not bound by what nine people say in perpetuity. We have an obligation and a right, in a free society, to push back.”

When asked if he agreed with Huckabee’s call for states to disregard a Supreme Court ruling, he said, “I don’t advocate civil disobedience, I do advocate the role of an informed citizenry to try to overturn when a court makes a mistake and gets an issue wrong.”

And Thomas Jefferson said, "We need to have a revolution every 20 years, just to keep the government honest." We are a bit behind schedule.

Courts give ruling, NOT law. What ever the court does can be over ridden by a vote in congress or a state GA.

Courts give ruling, NOT law.

Courts also have power to CHANGE the law. This has been shown in the past.
