Interesting Facts About the American Civil War By David J. Stewart “That which is not just is not law.” —William Lloyd Garrison (1805-1879) Over half the men who died in the Civil War, died as a result of pneumonia, fever or disease as a result of wounds (and not from the wound itself). Soldiers ran out of food and ate worms to survive. They ate dogs, horses and mules. Both union and confederates troops alike went hungry on the battlefield, some freezing to death in the cold. Entire towns were annihilated due to the war. The little town of Clarkesville, Tennessee proudly sent off 960 of their brave men and boys to fight with the confederate army against the union of the north. The town's entire hopes were all resting upon those men and boys. By the beginning of the Battle of Gettysburg in July of 1863, only 360 of those men and boys remained. By the end of the Battle of Gettysburg on July 4th, 1863 only 3 men remained. 957 of the town's men and boys were DEAD, slaughtered in the Civil War. Think about that! The average age of a union soldier was 25 years old. His chances of being wounded in battle was 1-in-10. The Civil War was fought in over 10,000 places nationwide, as far west as new Mexico. In some battles, only a horse was killed; but in other battles, nearly everyone was killed. More than 100,000 soldiers in the union army were under age 15. Some as young as 9-years old enrolled into the military as drummer boys. The average soldier stood 5' 8" tall and weighed 143 pounds. A startling 1-in-13 soldiers died of disease. At the Battle of Shiloh (a Hebrew word meaning, place of peace), Ulysses S. Grant would later reveal that the ground was so covered with the dead that there was no room to walk. 2,477 were killed at Shiloh. There were 23,000 casualties in all. This was only the beginning of the casualties to follow throughout the Civil War. The first telescopic gun-sites were invented during the Civil War, and the first land mines were invented. There were 240 patent applications for military weapons. The rifle musket shot an inch-long slug that spun as it left the gun, making it deadly accurate. The mini-ball could kill at a half-mile away. It was made of soft lead and caused massive damage upon impact. This is why there were so many amputations, that is, because there was no bone left to reattach a soldiers arm or leg. Musket rifles were accurate up to 750-feet away. The reason for the high casualties was because of the advanced weaponry. Most men went into the war thinking that the bayonet was still the weapon of choice. They learned the hard way about the deadly accuracy of high-powered rifles. It was a new era in warfare. American homes became military headquarters. Churches and homes were turned into hospitals, which were overrun with the wounded. Floors and walls became blood-stained. Books that were used as pillows for the wounded became blood-stained. The cry of agony could be heard everywhere as men had their limbs sawn off. High doses of opium were administered to the patient to kill the pain. The tools used, lack of antibiotics, caused many deaths. Most of the Civil War's 60,000 documented surgeries were amputations. A blood-curdling range of saws, sharp hooks and knives were the crude equipment used to amputate. The Civil War took place in over 10,000 places from New Mexico to Vermont. At the Battle of Cold Harbor in 1864 a shocking 7,000 Americans fell in 20-minutes of fighting!!! General Grant said of the battle in his memoirs, “I have always regretted that the last assault at Cold Harbor was ever made. ... No advantage whatever was gained to compensate for the heavy loss we sustained.” In 1861 most of America's 31,000,000 total population lived in quiet, small, rural towns on farms. It was a beautiful time in history, despite the horrors of slavery and the coming Civil War. The Civil War was fought mainly over Union rights verses State's rights. Literally, it was a war between the States of the south and the Federal government of the north. In many ways the Civil War defined what American would eventually become. “No day ever dawns for a slave,” a freed slave wrote. One slave said, “I'd rather be dead than be a nigger on one of these big plantations.” Some slaves refused to work and others ran away. Tuberculosis was a common cause of death. Most slave children had rotten teeth. Many died of dysentery. Black women were treated as property instead of as a person. Slavery was not just practiced in the south, it was also a northern practice. Eli Whitney was a northern, who invented the cotton gin. The cotton gin could produce 1,000 pounds of cotton per day, verses just 1 pound by hand without it. 1-out-of-7 Americans were slaves in 1861. In Boston in 1831, William Lloyd Garrison stated, “That which is not just is not law.” The abolition movement grew. The abolitionists wanted the slaves freed. It is tragic that 160 later we need an abolitionist movement to free the unborn children in the womb, who are being massacred at alarming rates. Abortion has slaughtered more human life than every World War and Civil War combined. Abortion is the silent American holocaust! Sadly, it's not just America. Over 400,000,000 abortions have been performed worldwide in recent decades, China leading the way with their one-child policy. The problem is not a lack of food and land to live and grow crops, nor of finding fresh water to sustain life; the problem is urbanization, which has been necessitated by government trade restrictions, industry regulations, corporate greed and political tyranny that herd people into big cities like cattle where daily life becomes intolerable. In 1861 there were only 31,000,000 people living in the United States. We've got more illegal immigrants than that parasiting off our nation today, infesting all of America's cities. Tragically, many blacks today in 2012 have made themselves voluntary slaves of the CIA's illegal drug cartel, joining thug street gangs to make money, and witnessing the death of their peers day-by-day from drive-by shootings by rival gangs. How sad and tragic! If you are a black youth involved in illegal activities, then you are supporting the confederacy who enslaved your ancestors. You might as well put chains and shackles around your own ankles. America's prison system is thriving today, occupied mostly by blacks. Georgia's prison system contains over 90% blacks. The Civil War is not completely over. Many southerners today discriminate every chance they get against blacks, within the law. I read recently about a young black man who was arrested on a misdemeanor charge in a small town in Georgia. The man told the police officer, “I'll do anything if you let me go.” That one statement got him charged with a felony of attempted to bride a police officer. That black man will go to prison for a very long time for making that one statement. Meanwhile, white political traitors in Washington D.C. and Wall Street criminals steal trillions-of-dollars from American citizens. No one is even arrested. That's America today. One man goes to prison for making a mere statement; while others steal enough money to provide food, clothing and housing for every American citizen for 10 lifetimes. The mainstream mafia (newsmedia) is the reason why, because they are owned by and for the criminal elite. Some men on the battlefield came within just a few feet of each other, shooting their enemy in the face at 5-feet away. Arms and legs simply vanished with the sound of musket and cannon fire. The union's cannon's were greatly feared and wiped out entire regiments in seconds. The southern confederacy didn't have the fire-power of the north, nor the hand-grenade type explosives which the union used. They were crude, but destructive... metal balls filled with gun-powder. The Battle of Gettysburg actually began over shoes. The confederate army needed shoes for their feet and heard that there was a large supply of shoes in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Some boys as young as 9-years-old fought in the Civil War in the confederacy of the southern states. The south had declared Jefferson Davis as their president and proclaimed to be their own country, independent of the north. Abraham Lincoln declared war on the south, refusing to allow secession from the union of the north. The Civil War was fought mainly over secession. By the end of the Civil War the tiny town of Winchester, Virginia had changed hands 72 times between the union and confederacy. The number of casualties in the Civil War shocked the nation. It was a brutal bloodbath. In 1962 over one million men were preparing to go to battle between the north and south. Wild hogs fed on the uncovered dead. Wounded soldiers cried out for help. Soldiers drank water from mud-holes filled with blood. General Grant slept under a tree to escape the cries of his wounded soldiers. The Wickedest People in the World... The Rothschild Family Adam Weishaupt's 1775 organization called the Illuminati disbanded publicly due to widespread criticism, but they simply went underground. Weishaupt's blueprint for World Government would later be reiterated almost word-for-word in Karl Marx's Communist Manifesto (a blueprint for World Government). The Rothschild's family made a pact with Satan way back in the 1700's to achieve World Government, their diabolical plot spanning centuries. By studying American and world history, we can clearly see their plan unfolding generation-by-generation. Baroness Philippine de Rothschild is pictured in the photo to the left. Carefully notice the satanic necklace showing her unquestioning loyalty to the Devil, represented by the ram's head. The ram (or goat) is a mockery of the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ. This satanic symbol is worshipped by esoteric (inner circles) of numerous occult groups such as Freemasonry (who call him Baphomet). Clearly, she looks like a woman with whom you don't want to mess with. In PAWNS IN THE GAME, William Guy Carr (1895-1959) documents how the international banking cartel (aka, the global elite) started, nurtured and profited from nearly every major war over the past two centuries. Here's some information about the Civil War from Des Griffin and how the Rothschilds financing BOTH SIDES of the Civil War... The Horrifying Battle of Gettysburg (1863) The Battle of Gettysburg only lasted for 3-days. 150,000 men fought between the north and the south. By the end of the battle 51,000 men were dead!!! The union of the north lost 28,000 men and the southern confederacy lost 23,000 men. The bodies of the dead soldiers were stacked like logs of wood. Puddles of blood were everywhere. Survivors later testified how they saw heads, arms and legs flying in the air during battle, blown off by cannons and thousands of muskets being fired simultaneously at the enemy. Steel balls filled the air. Entire regiments disappeared. General Robert E. Lee led the confederacy and Ulysses S. Grant led the northern union. The union won the Battle of Gettysburg. It was the farthest north that the confederacy army would ever fight again in the Civil War. Personally, having the benefit of hindsight, I believe that General Lee made a massive mistake in choosing to directly fight against the union at Gettysburg. The confederacy were largely outnumbered by northern troops. It was a suicide mission. Lee's commanders had suggested moving up to the north and strategically attacking, which would have been much better I think from studying the maps. Robert E. Lee refused and wanted a head-on battle. Lee was so humiliated that he wrote a letter of resignation to President Jefferson Davis in the south, but Davis refused. Lee would continue to lead the confederate army and live with the needless death of tens-of-thousands of men. Some of his commanders never forgave him for the death of their entire regiment of men. Venereal disease became rampant in the Civil War. One-fourth of some confederacy regiments had sexually-transmitted disease. Prostitution was legalized in Tennessee and other places during the Civil War and discontinued after. Troops were tested and provided medical treatment, thus greatly reducing the spread of STD's during the war. Amputees were common. Hundreds-of-thousands of soldiers lost either an arm, leg, eye or combination thereof. Amputation was brutal, lacking modern anesthesia. Perhaps the most memorable part of the entire war was Abraham Lincoln's famous 2-minute speech in July of 1963; namely, the Gettysburg Address. The photographer missed taking a photo of Lincoln, shocked at the short length of Lincoln's speech. Before he could even snap a photo the speech was over and done. What a missed opportunity and a lesson to everyone to be prepared in life! In his speech, Lincoln spoke of the greatness of freedom for all mankind... THE GETTYSBURG ADDRESS "Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation or any nation so conceived and so dedicated can long endure. We are met on a great battlefield of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field as a final resting-place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this. But in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate, we cannot consecrate, we cannot hallow this ground. The brave men, living and dead who struggled here have consecrated it far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living rather to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us--that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion--that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain, that this nation under God shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from the earth." The famous southern general, Stonewall Jackson was shot by his own men while evaluating a battle plan in an open field. Two of the men with him died. Jackson had his left arm amputated and died shortly thereafter from pneumonia. Many people grieved over the death of their beloved general. A common delight of the confederate soldiers was to soak cornmeal in leftover bacon grease, kneading it into a dough and then cooking it over open fire. They were sent pies, dried meats, bacon, and other delightful foods. When the food ran out they resorted to eating earth worms and dogs. Interestingly, both President Abraham Lincoln and General Robert E. Lee openly stated that they believed they were doing God's will. When asked if he thought the Lord was on the side of the North in the Civil War, Lincoln responded, “I am not at all concerned about that, but it is my constant anxiety and prayer that I and this nation should be on the Lord’s side.” Well stated Mr. Lincoln. Some of the freed slaves joined the union and went back down south, killing their slave owners in battle. Tens-of-thousands of blacks in the union army proved instrumental in defeating the south. The war was brought to an end in 1965 when the north attacked deep in the south, cutting off all food, ammunition and supplies to the confederate army. The war was soon over. Instead of fighting continually on the frontlines, General Grant simply cut off the confederacy's source of food and ammunition. Twenty-five percent of all military aged men (18-45) were killed in the south during the Civil War. Ingrates in America Today Use Liberty as Occasion to Commit Sin Volumes of books have been published concerning the Civil War. The saddest thing to me is that America today has totally disregarded the sacrifice of all those who fought for what they believed in. Americans have used their liberty as an occasion to sin. We've used our God-given freedoms (which were secured by the death of millions of others) as a license to commit wickedness of all sorts. Americans use their liberty to commit sexual immorality, conceiving unwanted children, and then murdering those precious lives in Abortuaries resembling Nazi-gas chambers. As if the Civil War wasn't devastating enough, consider that 20,000,000 men died on the battlefields during World War I. The world was totally shocked and in disbelief that such massive loss of life could happen. World War II claimed well over 50,000,000 lives. I guarantee you that World War III will cost hundreds-of-millions of lives. Ultimately, God will kill billions during the Tribulation as judgment upon the wickedness of mankind (Revelation 9:18). If men want to continue killing each other, God is going to give them the death that they so crave and desire; but it will be horrifying, worse than napalm or any weapon invented by wicked men. The confederacy was doomed before they began by shear numbers. The northern union had a population of 21,000,000 people and the southern confederacy only 9,000,000 people. The total combined supplies, ammunition, and goods of the southern confederacy were only equal to just one-fourth of the state of New York's wealth. The northern union had MUCH more supplies and MUCH more soldiers. By this shear mathematical imbalance, the south was doomed from the start. I recently watched a 271-minute (5:45 hours) documentary produced by the Timeless Media Group titled, THE FORGOTTEN WAR: KOREA. An American led UN coalition of troops were no match for the shear numbers of Chinese troops who had entered the Korean War. Our soldiers were highly outnumbered by hundreds-of-thousands of Chinese soldiers coming down from the north. Some regiments were totally annihilated. Thousands of American men were captured, mercilessly tortured, killed and a few kept as POW's. The Korean War was largely fought in the mountains of North Korea, where temperatures dropped down to 20 below zero and chill-factors dropped to 100 below zero. Many soldiers, UN, Korean and Chinese alike, had toes, feet, fingers and hands amputated from frostbite. War is so horrible. As surprising as it is, President Abraham Lincoln took the nation to war WITHOUT the consent of congress, totally disregarding the U.S. Constitution. Lincoln suspended Habeas Corpus and seized northern telegraph offices. Thousands of southerners were arrested and not given the right to trial. To prevent Baltimore from seceding from the union, President Lincoln sent troops to prevent it. If it weren't for Abraham Lincoln's sole act of violating the U.S. Constitution, there would have been no Civil War. For this reason alone some historians have said that Abraham Lincoln was no hero. I am careful not to form an opinion here, as I was not there and haven't studied the subject enough to make a determination. I do know that Lincoln's wife brought séances into the White House in an attempt to communicate with their departed children who had died. Lincoln read the King James Bible and was spiritual, but he didn't join a church, nor ascribe to any particular denomination. He sounds like my kind of guy. Abraham Lincoln's Hypocrisy Lincoln was highly intelligent and thought for himself. There is a bit of hypocrisy in Lincoln's life that bothers me immensely. Lincoln strictly enforced the draft which forced other people's sons into the army but kept his own son at college till near the end of the war. Then his (alleged) letter of 21 November 1864, to poor Mrs. Bixby (John Hay really wrote the letter) who lost five dear boys in the war, appears a positive cruel mockery after reading Lincoln's letter to General Grant of January 19, 1865 about keeping his own (Lincoln's) son out of the ranks. If Lincoln had been required to send his son into battle, there wouldn't have been a Civil War. I hate that about warmongers. The Bible teaches by good advice to go to war. Abraham Lincoln acted alone... Under the Constitution the federal government can unquestionably suspend the privilege of the writ of habeas corpus if the public safety requires it during times of rebellion or invasion. The issue is whether Congress or the president holds this power. Historical perspective on that issue in the context of the Civil War requires a study of the actions of Congress and the president, Lincoln's defense of his suspensions of the writ, and presidential and congressional dealings with and reactions to each other. The relationship between Lincoln and Congress, like the power of suspension, has received limited historical attention, with the only extensive treatment a 1907 article by University of Wisconsin professor George Sellery. SOURCE: Lincoln's Suspension of the Writ of Habeas Corpus: An Historical and Constitutional Analysis We see this same situation again happening today in modern times, where Both President's Bush and Obama have totally disregarded the U.S. Constitution, waging wars and passing treasonous laws that congress have not approved. On New Year's Eve (as if almost a sign of the close of American liberty), President Barack Obama signed the NDAA into law, granting the federal government power to make any American disappear without right to trial. The end result is always more deaths, more dead troops, more dead Americans, more massive debt for our nation. I read an interesting article critiquing President Lincoln for his defiance of congress and rule of law on a modern website sympathetic toward the confederacy. Lincoln acted beyond his given powers. It is disturbing that President Lincoln was so willing to send other people's sons to die in battle for something he so strongly believed in, without the consent of congress. Lincoln's son was spared an untimely death by Lincoln himself. It makes me angry. No leader should be able to protect their son while killing yours for their personal agenda. Everything rises and falls on leadership. Sadly, we have criminals leading our nation to destruction in 2012. History reveals that the wicked Rothschild family financed both sides of the Civil War and instigated the secession by the south. It's crazy when you think about American history. The U.S. was formed in 1776 by seceding from England. Then the U.S. tried to conquer Canada in the War of 1812, but lost. Then the south tried to secede from the northern union in the Civil War of 1861-1865. Historically mankind has gone to war to fight over the boundaries of their habitations. Yet, the Bible says that God hath determined the bounds of their habitation in Acts 17:26. Russia conquered dozens of nations during World War II, but today they're just Russia again (the Soviet Union failed in the 1980's). The Palestinians bought homes and occupied Israel for centuries, but today the Jews are back in Palestine. Jews belong in Israel. Anybody knows that. Arabs have 19 countries throughout the Middle East to choose to live in; but the Jews only have a tiny little country to live in, Israel... Arabs need to be quiet about the land of Palestine. God gave that to the Jews. The truth is that Arabs don't want Israel to exist anywhere, and that's hatred and sin. I don't take sides in the Middle East quagmire. My position is that the entire region needs Jesus Christ, but both Arabs and Jews alike reject Him almost unanimously. Russians belong in Russia. Germans live in Germany. Chinese live in China. God made it this way at Babel when He segregated mankind. Yet, mankind continues to attempt to broaden his borders, conquer and dominate his neighbor. The Horrible Cost of War The Civil War is a sad part of American history. As much as I hate to say it, most men were eager and excited at the onset of the Civil War. It was a game of sport to them. No one knew what was coming. No one could have possibly envisioned the death, carnage and misery that would come from the Civil War. No one could have envisioned dead soldiers stack 6-feet high like firewood. War wasn't so fun anymore when their feet were swollen, their dinner was earth worms, and their left leg was blown off. I am saddened when I see young boys playing with guns, pretending to kill each other. I played guns when I was a kid, and I would have eagerly joined the military if it weren't for going off to Bible college instead. I didn't wake up until my mid thirties. Now I hate war and everything that leads to war. Most wars are needless and insane. It's not hard to understand why there are wars. Look at how people hurt each other. Jesus foretold that a man's enemies would be they of his own household. The heart of mankind is evil (Jeremiah 17:9). The Civil War was tragic, Americans killing Americans. How could that have happened? Look how family members so often hurt their loved ones. Humanity is no better than the animal and insect world that prey upon each other. God gave humanity a mind, heart and soul; but also a spirit to walk with God if he so chooses. Animals have no spirit. Man is special, the object of God's redeeming love. Even the angels of Heaven, although created slightly higher than humanity, cannot boast of being the object of God's redeeming love that sent Jesus Christ to Calvary to pay for our sins. Jesus died, was buried and rose again bodily 3-days later. The American Civil War (1861-1865) was brutal. I recently watched a 12-hour PBS documentary by Ken Burns on the Civil War. It was so heartbreaking to learn of all the needless killing, suffering and misery.
Officially 600,000 men died fighting the Civil War, but premature deaths soared well over one million in the postwar years due to disease caused by wounds inflicted in the war.
Fewer than 4 slaves out of 100 lived to be 60. They worked 14-hours a day, and longer if there was a full-moon. Blacks were made to jump and dance on the auction block, showing that they were healthy. A good slaves' back was shown at auction, showing that he was obedient and didn't need to be beaten to work. A slave could expect to be sold at least once in a lifetime, often 2 or 3 times. Since blacks had no rights, their wedding vows were changed to say, “'til death or distance do you part.” Married slaves were separated sometimes for life, for the profits of their owners. Slavery is evil.
In the year of 1863, the state of Mississippi spent one-fifth of the entire annual budget on prosthetic limbs to accommodate amputees who were wounded fighting in the Civil War. Amputated legs and arms were stacked pile high outside of crude medical operations. Below you can see the type of crude tools that were used to saw-off their arms and legs. They didn't have guns with bullets like we have today. back then they used muskets, packed with gun-powder and a steel ball that caused devastating damage in whatever it hit.
I'm certainly no expert on Civil War history, but I do know enough of American history to know that there were occult secret societies behind the Civil War, which is an entirely different subject and much reading is available online covering the matter. The Rothschilds & The Civil War

It would be extraordinarily naive to even consider the possibility that a family as ambitious, as cunning and as monopolistically minded as the Rothschilds could resist the temptation of becoming heavily involved on the American front.
Following their conquest of Europe early in the 1800s, the Rothschilds cast their covetous eyes on the most precious gem of them all -- the United States.
America was unique in modern history. It was only the second nation in history that had ever been formed with the Bible as its law book. Its uniquely magnificent Constitution was specifically designed to limit the power of government and to keep its citizens free and prosperous. Its citizens were basically industrious immigrants who 'yearned to breath free' and who asked nothing more than to be given the opportunity to live and work in such a wonderfully stimulating environment.
The results -- the 'fruit' -- of such a unique experiment were so indescribably brilliant that America became a legend around the globe. Many millions across the far flung continents of the world viewed America the Beautiful as the promised land.
The Big Bankers in Europe -- the Rothschilds and their cohorts -- viewed the wonderful results borne by this unique experiment from an entirely different perspective; they looked upon it as a major threat to their future plans.
The establishment Times of London stated: "If that mischievous financial policy which had its origin in the North American Republic [i.e. honest Constitutionally authorized no debt money] should become indurated down to a fixture, then that government will furnish its own money without cost. It will pay off its debts and be without a debt [to the international bankers]. It will become prosperous beyond precedent in the history of the civilized governments of the world. The brains and wealth of all countries will go to North America. That government must be destroyed or it will destroy every monarchy on the globe."
The Rothschilds and their friends sent in their financial termites to destroy America because it was becoming "prosperous beyond precedent."
The first documentable evidence of Rothschild involvement in the financial affairs of the United States came in the late 1820s and early 1830s when the family, through their agent Nicholas Biddie, fought to defeat Andrew Jackson's move to curtail the international bankers. The Rothschilds lost the first round when in 1832, President Jackson vetoed the move to renew the charter of the 'Bank of the United States' (a central bank controlled by the international bankers). In 1836 the bank went out of business.
PLAN OF DESTRUCTION
In the years following Independence, a close business relationship had developed between the cotton growing aristocracy in the South and the cotton manufacturers in England. The European bankers decided that this business connection was America's Achilles Heel, the door through which the young American Republic could be successfully attacked and overcome.
The Illustrated University History, 1878, p. 504, tells us that the southern states swarmed with British agents. These conspired with local politicians to work against the best interests of the United States. Their carefully sown and nurtured propaganda developed into open rebellion and resulted in the secession of South Carolina on December 29, 1860. Within weeks another six states joined the conspiracy against the Union, and broke away to form the Confederate States of America, with Jefferson Davis as President.
The plotters raided armies, seized forts, arsenals, mints and other Union property. Even members of President Buchanan's Cabinet conspired to destroy the Union by damaging the public credit and working to bankrupt the nation. Buchanan claimed to deplore secession but took no steps to check it, even when a U.S. ship was fired upon by South Carolina shore batteries.
Shortly thereafter Abraham Lincoln became President, being inaugurated on March 4, 1861. Lincoln immediately ordered a blockade on Southern ports, to cut off supplies that were pouring in from Europe. The 'official' date for the start of the Civil War is given as April 12, 1861, when Fort Sumter in South Carolina was bombarded by the Confederates, but it obviously began at a much earlier date.
In December, 1861, large numbers of European Troops (British, French and Spanish) poured into Mexico in defiance of the Monroe Doctrine. This, together with widespread European aid to the Confederacy strongly indicated that the Crown was preparing to enter the war. The outlook for the North, and the future of the Union, was bleak indeed.
CZAR ALEXANDER II
In this hour of extreme crisis, Lincoln appealed to the Crown's perennial enemy, Russia, for assistance. When the envelope containing Lincoln's urgent appeal was given to Czar Alexander II, he weighed it unopened in his hand and stated: "Before we open this paper or know its contents, we grant any request it may contain."
Unannounced, a Russian fleet under Admiral Liviski, steamed into New York harbor on September 24, 1863, and anchored there, The Russian Pacific fleet, under Admiral Popov, arrived in San Francisco on October 12. Of this Russian act, Gideon Wells said: "They arrived at the high tide of the Confederacy and the low tide of the North, causing England and France to hesitate long enough to turn the tide for the North" (Empire of "The City," p. 90).
History reveals that the Rothschilds were heavily involved in financing both sides in the Civil War.
Lincoln put a damper on their activities when, in 1862 and 1863, he refused to pay the exorbitant rates of interest demanded by the Rothschilds and issued constitutionally-authorized, interest free United States notes.
For this and other acts of patriotism Lincoln was shot down in cold-blood by John Wilkes Booth on April 14, 1865, just five days after Lee surrendered to Grant at Appomattox Court House, Virginia. 
To appreciate the depth of the preceding speech, keep in mind that President Abraham Lincoln spoke these words to a grieving nation who just watched 51,000 men kill each other in a 3-day bloody battle at Gettysburg!!!
