The overprescribed BPH drug Flomax has come under a lot of fire in recent studies for causing hyperglycaemia, a spike in blood sugar that is potentially lethal to diabetics and a leading cause of cancer. Other recent studies in the journal Bio-Medical Research International showed that “hyperglycaemia can confer resistance and intolerance to chemotherapy.” And that “hyperglycaemia may contribute to a more malignant phenotype of cancer cells and lead to drug resistance”. More research has also linked hyperglycaemia with increased risk of metastasis for Prostate Cancer. It is difficult to say whether or not this latest evidence is the final death knell for the dangerous Tamsulosin drug. However most industry watchers believe that Flomax will survive this latest scandal. One health industry expert who wished to remain anonymous said, “Flomax isn’t going anywhere soon, despite the latest revelations about its links to cancer and diabetes. The problem is that it doesn’t matter how dangerous drugs are, the FDA is toothless and the pharmaceutical lobby is big, mean and rich.” We reached out to bestselling author and global Prostate health expert Ben Ong for an analysis of the study and what it means for men taking Flomax. “Sadly these results are not as shocking as you might have thought. Studies have been revealing that Tamsulosin is more dangerous than many patients are led to believe, and less effective.
