Microsoft slices and dices its phone business, with a huge $7.6 billion write off and 7,800 jobs cut (NASDAQ:MSFT, NYSE:NOK)

Microsoft has just announced that it is cutting a huge 7,800 jobs from its phone business, while it also writes off $7.6 billion in relation to its acquisition of Nokia's Devices and Services Division. Considering Microsoft paid $7.2 billion for Nokia's phone business last year, this is quite the check to write.

Satya Nadella, Microsoft CEO, explains: "We are moving from a strategy to grow a standalone phone business to a strategy to grow and create a vibrant Windows ecosystem including our first-party device family. In the near-term, we'll run a more effective and focused phone portfolio while retaining capability for long-term reinvention in mobility".

Keep in mind Nadella said back in April that there would be 18,000 job cuts in the next 12 months, these additional 7,800 job losses will add up to over 25,000 employees laid off by Microsoft in just over a 12-month period.

Miker$oft is betting the farm on this month's release of Windows 10, which is a 'FREE SUBSCRIPTION' upgrade. 'Upgrade' is 'free' for all Windows 7 and 8 systems.

Industry speculation abounds that this 'free' upgrade will turn into a paid subscription service after one year.(1 image)

Anybody gets and tries it, please report.

What do Windows users do if MS folds? Go to Mac, is it that simple?

There are several LINUX DISTRIBUTIONS that will run Windows programs just fine.

Most are F-R-E-E

IMO, M$oft's trajectory is based on a perpetual 'subscription service' to keep them floating, which would require a 'payment' to keep said subscription 'active' over the years.

M$ has stated that Win10 is the LAST update to Windose because ALL FUTURE patches and updates will be performed 'automatically' via your 'subscription' service.

The exact details of this are being closely guarded, and won't be fully disclosed until Jul 29th (Win10 release date).

Lots of testers though are really linking what they are seeing in Win10's core such as improved hardware speed.

The 'events' that have shaken our Constitutional Rights and freedoms I fear will also be 'implemented' into Win10 in the form of 'data collection' inherent also at the core of Win10. The new 'Cortana' mimics Apple's 'SIRI' system, which also may be a huge gov 'data collection' geopolitical monolith.

The thing about this is WE WILL NEVER KNOW. Neither Apple or M$ or the gov will ever disclose it.

What do you think? Are our privacy and property rights going to still be preserved by the brainwashed generation of coders who could give a shit about the Constitution?

M$ is also very worried about the great advancements of Linus.

Here is a comparison. It is VERY long (and boring), but will give you a good idea about what M$ is up against. Again Linux is FREE. This version works great on practically and old hardware up to the latest hardware. It is pronounced "MA-TAY"

Haha, almost a tribute to the passionate, even ritualistic custom of yerba mate drinking in Argentina and Uruguay. Let's all go to Linux so the miscreants can start creating thousands of viruses for it -- no OS left behind! Gosh, I'm funny.

When my olde XP machine finally gave up the ghost in '12, I installed a new iMac27 that had been resting in a guest room for well over a year, got things going in well-under an hour, and haven't looked back since.

A truly superior computing experience here.
