It’s Time To Arm All Of Our Military Personnel

   

Mike Lavery July 17, 2015

A sign showing “No Firearms” is surrounded by bullet holes on the Military Recruitment Centre doors

Earlier this year, U.S. law enforcement officials picked up “chatter” from a known ISIS associate, encouraging homegrown terrorists here in America loyal to the Islamic State to “attack and kill police officers, soldiers, intelligence officers and government employees.” They were urged to use any means possible to take their lives. Shoot, stab, beat, behead…anything. Since that first (to be made public) threat, countries around the world have seen multiple “lone wolf” style terror attacks on both police and civilians. Then, in the aftermath of the attack during a cartoon contest in Garland, Texas, security conditions were raised at U.S. military bases due to the growing concern about terror attacks. The Pentagon have a five-tier threat level system called “Force Protection Condition” and it was now at “Force Protection Bravo.” This is defined as an “increased and predictable threat of terrorism.”

Yesterday, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, we saw just how “increased and predictable” that threat was when a lone gunman attacked our military at two, separate, locations. Four of our marines were murdered where they stood. Gunnery Sgt Thomas J Sullivan, 40; Lance Cpl Skip Wells, 21; Sgt Carson Holmquist, 27; and Staff Sgt David Wyatt, 37 died while wearing their military uniform. They didn’t stand a chance. They were not armed.

We train our military to be the best in the world at what they do and, in return, they swear an oath to “defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” Yesterday, those heroes could not defend our nation and they could not defend themselves.

Around 20 years ago, back when the thought of a homegrown terrorist attack was only in the imagination of a Hollywood writer, government officials set forward a motion to ban all military personnel carrying firearms while not engaged in combat unless, of course, they are security personnel. They do, however, have to wear their military fatigues so they are recognized as servicemen and women. In other words, they are sitting ducks.

Yesterday’s attack was carried out by an individual who knew exactly what he was doing. The locations were both firearm free zones and there was no security on-site. He knew that those military personal would be unarmed too. He attacked and he left four dead and multiple injured. He should have never had been able to have got a shot off.

We live in a different world than we did when these “rules and regulations” were put into place. Our brave servicemen and women—along with our police force—put their lives on the line every single day in order to allow both you and I to live safe and free. It is up to us to repay them and put pressure on our government to arm every single one of them. The people who attack us do so to promote fear. They are cowards. They attack those who cannot defend themselves. Let’s see how just brave they are when they are faced by one of the most dangerous people in the world; a member of the United States military and their gun.

Timeline of attacks on U.S. military locations within he past seven years:

Chattanooga, 2015

Gunman Mohammad Youssuf Abdulazeez began his shooting rampage in Tennessee at a recruiting center in a Chattanooga strip mall. He unleashed a barrage of bullets from an AK-47-style weapon, law enforcement officials said, injuring a recruiter. Abdulazeez went to a Navy operational support center 7 miles away and opened fire again, killing four Marines and seriously injuring a sailor, a Pentagon official said. Police killed the gunman. He was born in Kuwait and had Jordanian citizenship, two law enforcement officials said.

Washington, 2010

Former Marine reservist Yonathan Melaku pleaded guilty to shooting at the Pentagon and other military-related buildings and to trying to desecrate graves at Arlington National Cemetery containing the remains of veterans who fought in Iraq and Afghanistan. The drive-by shootings took place in October and November of 2010. Two of the targets were recruiting centers in northern Virginia. Melaku is a naturalized U.S. citizen who was born in Ethiopia. Prosecutors said he had “a large amount of jihadist material on his computer.”

Arkansas, 2009

Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad, an American citizen and Muslim convert, was sentenced to life in prison for shooting two soldiers at a military recruiting center in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was charged with killing Pvt. William Long and wounding Pvt. Quinton Ezeagwula. Muhammad was angry at the U.S. military because of “what they had done to Muslims in the past,” Little Rock homicide Detective Tommy Hudson has said.

Times Square, New York, 2008

A bomb exploded in front of a Times Square recruiting center in March of 2008. The blast went off around 3:45 a.m. There were no injuries. Surveillance footage showed someone riding a bicycle away from the scene shortly after the explosion. The case was never solved.

Terrorism is a responsibility of the U.S. Gov't, to see to it that it cannot be perpetrated.

Terrorism is a the responsibility of the U.S. Gov't...

That part is definitely true. Don't expect them to do anything about it. Without terrorism the warfare state would have no reason to continue to expand its power.

The policies the US govt pursues in the middle east is responsible for a lot of the terrorism we see. Don't expect them to stop it.

John Howard says: There are 4 schools of economics:
Marxism: steal everything
Keynesianism: steal by counterfeiting whenever needed
Chicago school (Milton Friedman): steal by counterfeiting at a steady, predictable rate
Austrians: don't steal

Democrats don't mind war as long as they can have big government. Republicans don't mind big government as long as they can have war.

So that's it, the suckering station was gun-free because the people don't want a police state, and the shooting gives them a perfect excuse to advance one this way. Mebbe the sign was a setup for the crime? How many suckering stations display one? Seems totally contrived.
