The South Was Right

~ Book Synopsis ~
South-cvr-final_v01.webIn 1861 eleven States of the American Union withdrew and formed themselves into the Confederate States of America…. The United States resolved to compel these seceded States to return into the Union by force of arms. The South resolved to defend her liberties. … The North was the aggressor from first to last. For years before the war, it began and carried on an agitation hostile to the South, and when the South sought to protect itself by peaceable withdrawal, it invaded the South with fire and sword. ~ Newly published from a 1914 manuscript by Samuel Augustus Hawkins Steel (S.A. Steel).

A nation that is ignorant of its past, is a nation that is ripe for deception and manipulation. Therefore, it is not what happened, but rather what people believe happened which determines the present actions of a nation. ~ Warriors of Honor

~ Editor and Publisher’s Comments ~
It was 1958 and that year I attended the Crestwood Elementary School in Northbrook, Illinois. It was this one fortuitous year that I would receive the greatest gift of my ‘formal’ education – a year to remember for many reasons – chiefly among them was my teacher – Donald Adair.

In those years, history (or Social Studies as they called it) was taught from the outset of our formative years. How many times would we learn the stories of Columbus or Magellan and the other explorers, in addition to the tales of the Sons of Liberty and the original American Revolution? But Mr. Adair took me down an entire adventuresome path when he embarked on something called ‘the Civil War’ – and fifty-seven years later I am still excited to be on my quest for TRUTH.

My mentor taught history not only in an exciting manner – but most importantly – in a truthful way, and one of the ways he accomplished his goal – was to challenge us to learn – and he knew how to get us to question, question, question – and in that manner – we learned.

It was near the end of our studies of this period of American history, that we were to put on a series if vignettes depicting various moments of that four year period. When it came time to cast the roles of the two Generals who were to meet at Appomattox Court House on that day in April of 1865, I was asked, “Which General would you like to portray Jeff?” My answer instinctively was, “General Lee.”

During that year with Mr. Adair, I was given two gifts; the first being that in the fifth grade – I learned the truth about what I have always called, the ‘War of Northern Aggression’, and secondly – to never end your quest for the TRUTH – no matter the cost… and now this treasure of a forgotten book by S.A. Steel, which supports so much of my life’s studies…

Oakland Cemetery, Shreveport, Louisiana

Oakland Cemetery, Shreveport, Louisiana

During the late Spring of 2000 I was privileged to travel cross country by car, where I spent two of the most spiritual hours I have ever experienced – walking the hallowed paths of the old Oakland Cemetery in Shreveport, Louisiana. Among those interred are nephews of President Jefferson Davis; sons of Confederate General Richard Taylor, numerous casualties as well as at least 300 veterans of the conflict.

Why this book? Why now? Given the irrationality of the PC crowd in Washington, D.C. and the media today – and NASCAR, the NAACP, the South Carolina debacle and the digging up of Confederate soldiers from ages old cemeteries – I frankly have heard enough of the ‘victor’s’ side of an issue that should have been settled long ago. Racism? Sure – by a group of radical degenerates who just can’t let go of their version of Reconstructionist foolishness? Even D.W. Griffith would be appalled.

Enjoy a real piece of Americana and learn the way it really was in our two nations – and the REAL reasons that eleven states chose to leave the Union – and how the Constitutional provisions allowed this to happen.

It’s not now nor never has been about “the Flag.” It’s about TRUTH.

Thank you Mr. Adair.

Civil War’s Last Rebel Town Finally Rejoined the Union—in 1946! [The upstate New York town called Town Line, near Buffalo and Canada; Article includes news reports from Oregon (1945) and North Carolina (1946)]

few people know this Civil War story: the last Rebel town to rejoin the Union after the Civil War was not south of the Mason-Dixon Line, but was in the Union state of New York. ... the tiny New York town called Town Line, which joined the Rebel Cause and seceded from the Union in 1861—and did not come back to the United States until 1946, 81 years after the American Civil War ended! ... On 24 January 1946, by a vote of 90 to 23, the last Rebel town of the Civil War officially rejoined the Union.

The Secession of Town Line, New York

Town Line is located in Erie County, only a few miles away from the Canadian border. Its miniscule population was mostly first and second-generation German immigrants with no ties to the South, and they certainly wouldn’t have approved of the owning of slaves. And the town supported Abraham Lincoln in the previous year’s election, making the subsequent vote even more baffling. ... Some speculate that the tension was due to the role of government interference in daily life.

[Re: the 1946 re-vote] While 90 people voted for Town Line to give up the “independence” their ancestors had sought out, 23 still voted to stay with the Confederacy.

The South Was Right! - Book Review excerpts

New England had been a threat, a nuisance, and a negative force in the progress of America. Northerners, including a few patriotic New Englanders, believed this as much as Southerners. Twice during the administrations of Jefferson and Madison, and several times later, [New Englanders] threatened to break up the Union [See also, for example, The History of Secession in New York (Vermont, etc.) - Wikipedia]

hateful demonization of those who resist domination by New Englanders has been commonplace for about three hundred years or more.

New Englanders have no civilization - only money and ideology. Without us to abuse and claim to feel superior to, they would not exist. If the United States was a normal country, the idea of breaking down a federal government that has grown much too big would be a normal part of political discourse. But, alas, the United States is not a normal country; it is the cannon fodder for a ruling class driven so mad by wealth and power that it seeks to dominate the Earth.

Right into the war, Northerners opposed to the conquest of the South blamed the conflict on fanatical New Englanders out for power and plunder, not on the good Americans in the South who had been provoked beyond bearing.

In short, American freedom was not a legacy of the "Puritan Fathers," but of Virginians who proclaimed [natural rights; 4um Ref.] and spread constitutional rights. New England gets some credit for beginning the War of Independence. After the first few years, however, Yankees played little part. The war was fought and won in the South. Besides, New Englanders had good reasons for independence - they did not fit into the British Empire economically, since one of their main industries was smuggling, and the influential Puritan clergy hated the Church of England. Southerners, in fighting for independence, were actually going against their economic interests for the sake of principle. Once Southerners had gone into the Union (which a number of wise statesmen like Patrick Henry and George Mason warned them against), the Yankees began to show how they regarded the new federal government: as an instrument to be used for their own purposes.

Who invaded who?

The South proposed no invasion of the North. They just wanted to be let alone.

The Final Text of the Declaration of Independence July 4 1776

to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government,

"it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off" destructive/despotic "government, and to provide new guards for their future security."
