I was a Boy Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow many moons ago. Look what it did to me.
ROTF! Made you a right-wing extremist? Was there anything in the least subversive or even sub rosa about the Order? Makow's been assailed for these charges, but I thought since he made them they were worth running up the flagpole.
I can't see and PLEASE don't show me!

Did you get your Horse Race Wagering badge?
The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out... without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane, intolerable. ~ H. L. Mencken
I'm in a 2015 horse wagering slump. I'm going to hit them hard in September...I mean it.
I wish you the very best at kicking ass at the windows. May your picks all be winners! Or placers or showers, or whatever combo makes you $$$. I read once of a guy who got rich fishing unclaimed winning tickets out of the trash at racetracks -- it was claimed he put his kids through college on the proceeds. Does that make any sense? I personally know a father and son who make considerable folding money going through the rejects at coin shops -- some good stuff gets missed by dealers.
Makes less than zero sense to me. Who knows? The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out... without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. When I told my grandpa about a kid at school whose uncle said he wins $2000 a week at the track in Louisville, my grandpa said, "His uncle is a fool." "Why is he a fool, Grandpa?" "Because all he'd have to do is double his bets, and he could be winning $4000 a week." True story.

His uncle lied. When the track takes a 20% cut on every bet, it is hard to beat the track. I've had a few lucky days, but not very often. I still love it as a hobby and sport, not as a degenerate gambler. Actually, in the old days sharp dudes could come out ahead. These days, with computers and sophisticated bettors it is much more difficult.
Yes, no doubt. I always thought that was my grandpa's way of calling the man a liar. In any case, $2000 a week was a lot of money back in the early '70s.
