A little-known fact about the sister of presidential hopeful Donald Trump has surfaced, and while its a decades-old tidbit of information, it says a lot about the family and their political leanings.
As many of us know, The Donald has been accused of being a liberal disguising himself as a Republican in order to split the vote, or otherwise being a plant to disrupt the Republicans chances at the White House in 2016. But if what happened to his sister during the era of President Ronald Reagan, arguably the best president of modern times, is any indication of Trumps political leanings both then and now, then theres not much to worry about, because it was awesome.
According to the New York Times, then-President Reagan tapped Trumps older sister, Maryanne Trump Barry, for a senior judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and she was appointed to the position. You didnt see that coming, did you?
Well, the 78-year-old is a Republican and always has been, and she served honorably for the Court of Appeals throughout Reagans tenure. And on top of her service to our nation, The Donald says that his sister is incredibly proud of him for his presidential run.
She called me to say shes very proud, Mr. Trump said of a phone call the two had. She said, Just be yourself. Of course, I dont know if thats good advice, but she said, Just be yourself and you do well, really well.
Apparently, the two have had a close relationship over the years, but his sister isnt a fan of talking to the media, he said. Her desire for privacy has kept her in the shadows, so to speak, despite her record in the federal courts.
I have a sister who just doesnt want to talk to reporters. Can you believe it? Mr. Trump said, explaining that he had called his sister to suggest she speak with the media. I said: Maybe they mixed us at birth. Maybe one of us got mixed up a little bit. Who knows.
While this isnt exactly a bombshell report, it does lend insight into Trumps values, which many have questioned to this point. What I find ironic about this is that many in the media have likened Trump to Reagan in the respect that hes breaking the political mold and entering politics at a time when people want real change, which many believe Trump will be able to deliver, just like the man who made his sister a judge did.
