PressTV... Iran and China have signed an agreement to boost the two countries’ cooperation in development of maritime industries and facilities.

The agreement was signed by Iran's Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh, and Chairman of China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) Liu Qitao in Iranian capital, Tehran, on Tuesday.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Nematzadeh noted that Iran and China have many cultural, political, historical and economic commonalities in addition to common interests.

“The policy of the Iranian administration is to expand relations with other countries in all fields, especially in the field of economy,” Nematzadeh added.

The Iranian minister stated that following the conclusion of the recent nuclear agreement between Iran and world powers, Iran looks forward to expanding relations with other countries and engaging in long-term cooperation with them.

Noting that Iran and China can cooperate in various fields, Nematzadeh added, “This agreement pertains to development of the country’s maritime industries and Iran's priority for future cooperation is to boost investment and joint ventures.”

He said Iran has recently drawn up a 10-year strategic plan for its maritime industries, which foresees major investment in those industries, including in building new vessels.

“Therefore, we have decided to start long-term cooperation with creditable foreign companies in the field of maritime industries,” he said.

Nematzadeh expressed hope that the agreement would provide grounds for investment in Iran's maritime industries by the Chinese side and turn Iran into a hub for the overhaul of ships in the region.

The Chinese official, for his part said this was not the sole project that his company sought in Iran, adding that CCCC is willing to consider investment in various Iranian projects.

Qitao also expressed hope that the agreement would pave the way for the establishment of an overhaul center for various kinds of ships in the Persian Gulf region.
