Current Republican debate darling and presidential candidate Carly Fiorina has finally had a chance to weigh in on Ben Carsons recent controversial comments that he would not advocate having a Muslim who believes in Sharia law as the president of the United States. In her own words, Fiorina would be fine with a Muslim serving as President of the United States. Sharia or no. Fiorina joined Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show and he asked her for her opinion in light of, Ben Carson is in a lot trouble now because hes saying he would not advocate a Muslim being president. Well, I think thats wrong, Fiorina declared, making it clear that she disagreed with Carsons stance. You know, it says in our Constitution that religion cannot be a test for office, she said. It is also true that this country was founded on the principle that we judge each individual and that anyone of any faith is welcome here. Of course, Carson never said that he believed there should be a test of faith for the presidency. His comments clearly addressed whether he, personally, would support a Muslim who wanted to be president. It is Carsons belief and most of Americas that Sharia law is not consistent with the Constitution. According to Western Journalism: As Fiorina and fellow candidate Sen. Ted Cruz have pointed out, Article VI of the Constitution states: no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States, which Carson has not denied. The candidate elaborated on his views in a Facebook post Monday night and at a press conference on Tuesday. Know this, I meant exactly what I said. I could never support a candidate for President of the United States that was Muslim and had not renounced the central tenant (sic) of Islam: Sharia Law, Carson wrote. Those Republicans that take issue with my position are amazing. Under Islamic Law, homosexuals men and women alike must be killed. Women must be subservient. And people following other religions must be killed, he added. I know that there are many peaceful Muslims who do not adhere to these beliefs. But until these tenants (sic) are fully renounced
I cannot advocate any Muslim candidate for President. It may surprise people to know that Carly Fiorina didnt just misunderstand Ben Carsons statements. She actually is a big supporter of Islam and Muslims. She wrote about the topic in her book, Tough Choices: A Memoir where she described how soothing it was listening to Muslim prayers during the time she and her family lived in Ghana. Freedom Outpost reports that: In a speech that was given a mere two weeks after Islamic jihadists attacked America, the former HP chief executive officer gave a speech on technology, business and our way of life. She concluded her speech with the following: There was once a civilization that was the greatest in the world. It was able to create a continental super-state that stretched from ocean to ocean, and from northern climes to tropics and deserts. Within its dominion lived hundreds of millions of people, of different creeds and ethnic origins. One of its languages became the universal language of much of the world, the bridge between the peoples of a hundred lands. Its armies were made up of people of many nationalities, and its military protection allowed a degree of peace and prosperity that had never been known. The reach of this civilizations commerce extended from Latin America to China, and everywhere in between. And this civilization was driven more than anything, by invention. Its architects designed buildings that defied gravity. Its mathematicians created the algebra and algorithms that would enable the building of computers, and the creation of encryption. Its doctors examined the human body, and found new cures for disease. Its astronomers looked into the heavens, named the stars, and paved the way for space travel and exploration. Its writers created thousands of stories. Stories of courage, romance and magic. Its poets wrote of love, when others before them were too steeped in fear to think of such things. When other nations were afraid of ideas, this civilization thrived on them, and kept them alive. When censors threatened to wipe out knowledge from past civilizations, this civilization kept the knowledge alive, and passed it on to others. While modern Western civilization shares many of these traits, the civilization Im talking about was the Islamic world from the year 800 to 1600, which included the Ottoman Empire and the courts of Baghdad, Damascus and Cairo, and enlightened rulers like Suleiman the Magnificent. Although we are often unaware of our indebtedness to this other civilization, its gifts are very much a part of our heritage. The technology industry would not exist without the contributions of Arab mathematicians. Sufi poet-philosophers like Rumi challenged our notions of self and truth. Leaders like Suleiman contributed to our notions of tolerance and civic leadership. A number of items that Fiorina referred to regarding Muslim superiority were debunked by experts. After the recent terror attack in Texas when two jihadists attempted to shoot attendees of Pamela Gellers Draw Mohammed Cartoon Contest, Fiorina went on CNN and compared the event to white supremacists demonstrating. Carly compares Draw Mohammed event to white supremacists demonstrating: We already have a Muslim-friendly president in the White House right now and that hasnt gone very well at all. Do we really want another Muslim sympathizer in charge who thinks that Islam was once the greatest civilization in the world?
