Pell vs Pope

Cardinal George Pell has publicly criticised Pope Francis’ decision to place climate change at the top of the Catholic Church’s agenda.

Cardinal Pell, a well-known climate change skeptic, told the Financial Times the church had “no particular expertise in science”.

“The church has got no mandate from the Lord to pronounce on scientific matters,” he said,

“We believe in the autonomy of science.”

It is now close to all-out war:

Civil war has erupted at the top of the Catholic Church, with 13 cardinals, including Australia’s George Pell, warning the Pope in a letter that the church is in danger of collapsing like liberal Protestant churches in the modern era.

The cardinals say the threat of collapse has been accelerated by the “abandonment of key elements of Christian belief and practice in the name of pastoral adaptation’’.

As well as Cardinal Pell, the Vatican’s Secretary for the Economy, cardinals from Bologna, Toronto, New York, Galveston, Nairobi, Mexico, Utrecht, Durban and Caracas signed the letter, as well as other senior Vatican officials. These included Guinean Cardinal Robert Sarah, the church’s Prefect for Divine Worship, and German Cardinal Gerhard Mueller, the Prefect for Doctrine.

The row centres on the three-week Synod on the Family under way in Rome and being attended by about 300 delegates, mainly bishops, from around the world…

The letter complained the process seemed “designed to facilitate predetermined results on important disputed questions’’. Several of the signatories, including Cardinal Pell, have also raised concerns inside the synod…

One point of contention is whether long-established rules should be changed to allow divorced and civilly remarried Catholics to receive communion…

In a statement released after the leaking of the letter, a spokesman for Cardinal Pell said: “There is strong agreement in the synod on most points but obviously there is some disagreement because minority elements want to change the church’s teachings on the proper dispositions necessary for the reception of communion. Obviously there is no possibility of change on this doctrine.”

You've really done it now, Equus! Outstanding! Totally unexpected! And hopefully evidence the plope is becoming as irrelevant as the US Veep.

Outstanding. See, the bishops have a right to correct and admonish their fellow bishop (the pope). Im glad they're doing it,.

but regarding this line,

One point of contention is whether long-established rules should be changed to allow divorced and civilly remarried Catholics to receive communion…

That is very silly and whoever wrote this does not follow how the church works or even what the pope himself has said. the pope actually for some reason chose a conservative more traditional bishop to head the synod conference.

and the pope himself acknowledged on a speech the first day of the synod, he reaffirmed the fact that marriage is 'INDISSOLUBLE'. that means it is a sacred conevant with God, not able by anyone to be broken. so this silly notion by looney libs that the pope will allow divorced and remarried catholics to receive communion is foolish insanity. it would never ever happen.

if it did, that would cause an immediate 'schism', just like the protestant reformation. the looneys would break off and would be immediately excommunicated.

Catholics don't recognize civil divorce. even if a couple gets "divorced" they are still married in the eyes of God. and in the church. a govt divorce does not mean your marriage is over. not at all,. marriages are indissoluble in the eyes of the church. "What God has joined together let no man put asunder." That is why if ia Catholics divorces and remarries, they are considered to be in adultery, a mortal sin, and can not receive Holy Communion until they confess and change their life,. and get out of that shacking up false remarriage /adultery situation,.

The only way a Catholic can remarry after a civil government divorce is if there is issued a CERTIFICATE OF NULLITY, commonly known as an 'annulment.' this has nothing to do with 'paying someone off'' or other nonsense conspiracy theories,. a tribunal does a thorough investigation into whether the marriage was valid in the first place. A shotgun wedding, for example, when one or more of the parties did not give valid consent.

This Pope appears to be lacking it more than one area.

1917 Russian Revolution: Pope Benedict XV and Russia - Wikipedia

The seizure of power by the Bolshevik revolutionaries unleashed an unprecedented wave of persecutions against the Roman Catholic Church and the Russian Orthodox Church, ... During the winter of 1918–1919, some "twenty bishops were murdered together with thousands of priests and religious".[10][11]

The new [Communist] regime began to interfere in spheres, so far reserved for the Church, by legalizing divorce, and issuing civil marriage certificates.

Just as the Soviet kike tyrants tortured Christianity to death, the Plope is both going back to the middle ages on this stuff and allying with the elements paralleling the USSR here and elsewhere. Global warming fever is about GOVERNMENT STEALING PEOPLE'S RIGHTS, MONEY AND PROPERTY for cynical goals that are presented as noble and visionary, and if that isn't communist, what is.

Politically-correct FADDISM is nauseating. Watching everybody rich and famous try on the global warming hat is like seeing every celebrity put on love beads and bell bottoms in the 1960s -- vulgar, embarrassing, ominous.

Thanks for that. I've seen it said by other popes before also, but not that one. It seemed to be the commonly held view. Ironic that its so foreign to Catholics today, the notion that govt meddling in marriage is bad news.

Todays bishops malign the court rulings but don't often question govt involvement into marriage. Some do though. I did an article on one such current bishop along with the churchs history on this, and kew rockwell published it. He then ran a followup that said that my article had been censored by the govt at military bases. Bizarre!
