Most do-gooderism is absolutely terrible in its real impact. Whatever is given to da po folks takes them out of the market for things they'd most definitely otherwise be buying. I'm thinking of soup kitchens aka free restaurants and groceries, but the cases here will amaze you as the writer makes you laugh! Not too sure about his lambasting of attempts to eat locally though. Let's say suchan eatery manages to feature things that have always been grown in an area rather than trying to make longtime imports work in the local environment?
The bottom line is it's extremely (!) difficult for a jaded society like ours to change. That part's no fun. NN
