TOKYO — Vaccines are a highly politicized subject in many countries. Just look at Donald Trump’s repeated claims in the Republican presidential race that childhood vaccinations cause autism.

In Japan, a vigorous debate is underway over the safety of vaccinations against HPV, a virus that can lead to cervical cancer. Opponents say the vaccines — which have been given to more than 80 million girls and women around the world in the past nine years — are dangerous and cause mobility problems that can sometimes be severe.

Health experts say that the vaccines are safe and effective and that not vaccinating girls puts them at much greater risk of developing cervical cancer later in life. Global health authorities, including the World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, agree.

The Japanese government, which responded to concerns two years ago by withdrawing its recommendation that girls ages 12 to 16 have the HPV vaccine, is now having a tough time trying to reverse that decision.

That’s partly because of videos such as this, which anti-vaxxers say show girls with severe motor issues that developed after they were vaccinated. The videos are not pleasant viewing.

And he'd be right.

As in death, which has happened more than on one occasion immediately after injection. Sometimes worse than death is lifelong paralysis and/or pain throughout the body, which ALSO has happened after Gardasil injections.

What's even worse is that the vaccine has not shown ANY value in preventing HPV, and if anything can INCREASE the incidence of cervical cancer if the patient has already been exposed to the virus.

To top it off, cervical cancer is easily treatable these days and can be caught by simple PAP smear tests.

Thus, the "prevention" is infinitely worse than the so-called "preventable disease" itself.

Health experts say that the vaccines are safe and effective and that not vaccinating girls puts them at much greater risk of developing cervical cancer later in life.

And those "experts" should be tried and convicted of fraud leading to physical injury and death, malicious maiming, and murder. At minimum, they should have every penny taken from them for medical malpractice, on the same scale as quacks peddling snake oil as a cure all.

Vaccines vary in effectiveness and safety. HPV seems to be the worst in both regards.

About the only vaccine that I'm aware of that actually provides any benefit is the rabies vaccine for animals. All others have no factual data demonstrating their effectiveness or safety.

None are completely effective or safe. I decide which ones to take on a risk/reward basis, i.e., is the disease so horrible that I am willing to get a shot to lessen my chances of getting it. My doctor offered me the flu shot which I declined, saying that last year's was only 7% effective and, therefore, not worth it. He did not argue.

Our housekeeper was taken to the ER last week with chest pain and the first question they asked her was, "Did you take the flu shot?" Luckily, she had not and is doing great today.
