Enzymes are essential to healthy digestion and elimination. Your body relies on them to break down the foods you eat into the nutrients you need to stay strong and healthy. Some enzymes exist in raw, unprocessed foods, and some are produced naturally within your body.

As you age, however, your body’s production of enzymes steadily declines.[2] And when you factor in stress, exposure to environmental toxins and the way many of us rush through meals, it’s no small wonder so many people struggle with digestive problems and related health issues.

We'd have all the enzymes we needed if we ate more like our ancestors eating alkaline water rich raw fruit and vegetables rather than cooked acid forming food like meat, dairy, processed grains and legumes and refined sugar.

Our health wouldn't be such a mystery to so many people if more people knew that our digestive tracts are very closely related to primates and the closer our diets align with what primates eat, the healthier we are. Our body creates its own enzymes if we eat what it needs to create them. In fact, the BBC video above called "The Truth about Food" in this episode( not that this is anywhere close to the best reference ) at the 40 minute mark approximately, shows lab results which compared the digestive enzyme level and healthy gut flora from a group of people who were only given greens and fruit vs. ones that ate their usual cooked food but were given probiotics. The thing about man made isolate supplements to keep in mind is that since they aren't 100 percent natural, the body can't recognize and utilize building blocks it needs as well as it could if it was taken in plant form as grown in Nature.

Although the so called "experts" are still trying to have us believe, all we need to do is take the latest greatest supplement and our health problems will go away. Many many of the earlier healers -- including the medical profession before the AMA was established and allopathic medicine was forced down everyone's throat in our country-- knew this. They saw that the simpler the diet and the less cooked food that was eaten -- especially the mucus forming food -- the longer people lived and the healthier they were. The first thing I would do would be to eliminate the underlying cause(s) by looking at the diet and or anything the body was exposed to (like living in a moldy environment) and remove those causes. Certainly all mucus producing foods would be eliminated from the diet.

I probably would include fasting of some sort and definitely detoxing/cleansing -- making sure the body's eliminative systems were all highly functioning. Good bowel function/elimination and filtering of acid wastes through the kidneys are paramount. Cellular waste elimination is evidenced by white sediment in the urine.These systems would need to be functioning before much else could be accomplished.

I would also support my liver and adrenals and especially the kidneys, mentioned above, throughout the whole process as the adrenals influence the immune system, balance fluids and control our energy and the autonomic nervous system.They are crucial to good colon elimination and peristalsis.

Next increasing the movement of the lymph containing acids towards the "exits" would need to be addressed. Our heart pumps blood through our bodies but the lymphatic system has no pump. It also happens to be our body's sewage system (also called the immune system). With our primarily mucus producing cooked "dead" food diets, it is easy for our immune systems to become sluggish and clogged with hardened mucus, cysts, tumors.

Our skin is our third kidney. Bad skin or skin with lots of growths is just a sign your body is trying to eliminate wastes through your skin because your "other exits" ie kidneys aren't filtering efficiently enough. The raw fruit is good at loosening up and breaking down hardened acid wastes and reducing/eliminating inflammation from those acids. Certain anticeptic, astringent herbs work very well to purify the blood and pull out the poisonous wastes.

If there were memory or vision issues or unusual hair loss, I would do any and everything to clear out the head area using ear candling and Nettie pots, eating ginger, hot peppers, lemon juice and horseradish to encourage elimination of mucus from the head in addition to making sure I was eating as many berries as possible as berries work well in the head area.

After I got a good start on the cleansing process I would begin introducing more of the leafy greens for rebuilding of tissues.

Water fasting would be another option for some people. The Natural Hygiene movement beginning in the 1800s taught that only the body if left alone can heal itself using nothing but water. This can trigger some tough healing reactions you have to get through which is why I prefer a gentler approach using the easiest to digest fruit and herbs to expedite detox and healing.
