It's really democracy inaction. Most citizens don't want to get involved in the somewhat demanding task of selecting candidates, organizing their campaigns.

Best I can think of now is to do what major industries do: employ consultants to recruit competent candidates (rather than have Sayanim doing it). Separate consultants for the differing philosophies, if you wish, plus perhaps another for independent candidate, free of the various -isms, just what's best currently for American citizens. And candidate information campaign solely funded by tax dollars.
