Many years ago I was a third fiddle programmer on a new software package being developed. The OD had some weird monochromatic fixation so everything was some shade of green. Never being one to let my graphic design training from that high school class go to waste, I took it upon myself to fix the colors, patterning them on Windows 3.1 schemes.
The head honcho understood where I was going with that, so we standardized my colors. Made a big mistake when I showed too many co-workers how to change, still having nightmares about pink/purple combos some of the fairer sex came up with.
At some point, it occurred to me, that the colorblind might somehow be offended by the amount of time we were spending to appeal to multichromatic individuals, and we needed to focus on the basics of system design: to make as much money as we can. When I was a young man in Chicago, I worked at this yarn store. I had a guy from the neighborhood help once when we had to move a bunch of yarn out of a warehouse. I held up a skein of green yarn and asked him, "What color is this?" He said it was "Grey." I told him it was green. He was color blind. ;)
