In a Monday editorial http://www.unionleader.com/Joseph-W-McQuaid-Trump-campaign-insults-NH-voters-intelligence, publisher Joseph McQuaid called Trump a “crude blowhard with no clear political philosophy and no deeper understanding of the important and serious role of President of the United States than one of the goons he lets rough up protesters in his crowds.” McQuaid also wrote that Trump “reminds us of the grownup bully ‘Biff’ in the ‘Back to the Future’ movie series.” The Union-Leader has endorsed N.J. Gov. Chris Christie for the Republican nomination. Trump was incensed at the personal attack. “You have a very dishonest newspaper up here. It’s also a failing newspaper,” Trump told a crowd. “It’s going down the tubes. I remember when this was the big newspaper. Look at the size of this,” said Trump, holding up a copy of the Union-Leader. “If they cut it down any more, you won’t be able to find it.” Trump made it clear he was not angered at the paper’s endorsement of Christie, but for its attack after he did favors for McQuaid. He told the crowd at Pennichuck Middle School in Nashua the full inside story. “I thought he was fine. I thought he was an aggressive guy. He called me. He talked to me, he wanted me to come up and make a speech in New Hampshire. I’d do it. He asked me to help James Foley, which I liked very much. I gave a big contribution to his parents … He asked me to do many many things,” Trump told the crowd. Trump said McQuaid wanted him to tweet that Christie should be allowed on the main debate stage. Trump complied. However, he would not join in a presidential forum in which McQuaid wanted him to participate.
