Good morning. Lod is currently in surgery to repair a fractured hip. He called yesterday to tell me that he fell on the threshold between his family room and outside patio.
Please send positive thoughts and prayers his way.

How does one repair a fractured hip? A hip replacement?
I know more than a few people who've had that procedure and they are very satisfied with the results and lack of pain. But they got theirs pretty much for different reasons than in Lod's case.

That's the general idea. Not sure exactly how they do it, but there is quite while of physical therapy afterward to get you back in the swing of walking on it. ;)

Be a bit more careful while welcoming the new year next time around Lod... :)
Wishing you a speedy recovery.

My mother taught nursing, and one of her two specialties was orthopedics. And I broke my leg -- tibia and fibula -- very badly when I was 18. But that's as far as my musculoskeletal medical credentials go.
This link has a lot of useful and interesting info. Apparently hip replacement isn't always necessary, and is undertaken only when less radical treatment isn't indicated for one reason or another.
I haven't spoken to Jim yet, but he just now left a voicemail to inform me that he has been transferred to a "premier rehab facility." He said he only has occasional pain and is mostly lying in bed.
His voice sounded good. I will call him later and provide more info.
I spoke to Jim. He's been in the hospital all this time! So now it's rehab to get him mobile and strong. His voice sounds chipper, but he did say that this ordeal has been awful and very painful.
They've not given him a time frame. A friend of his is going to get him a laptop so that he can get online while he's confined. Jim asked me to say hello to all.
Lod knows a lot about supplementing. He'll know what to take to heal.
I was taking a Calcium Aspartate supplement. This type of calcium has an ion that grabs the calcium like a claw and transports it into the cell where it can be used. Good stuff.
I'm out on mental PT to connect! Things seem to be going 0K. but what a royal pain.
Thank you all for your prayers and concern.

I learned that in order to repair the bone fracture, a large muscle group had to be severed; who knows when I'll be able to walk independently again?
Otherwise, things are just peachy here.
