There are other volcanoes erupting at the same time in other areas of the world. The Popocatépetl volcano is just 35 miles from Mexico City and only 20 miles from nearby city Peubla sent a mile high plume of ash into the air. This volcano could destroy Mexico City which is home to 20 million people. Mexico City has a high altitude (7,382 feet) and a low oxygen content combined with terrible smog. If the volcano 35 miles away had a really big eruption as it has in the past, Mexico City would have to be evacuated. And 10 million Mexicans or more would flee north.
Also, in 1815 a volcano in Indonesia erupted and sent so many particulates into the are that 1816 became known as a 'Year without a summer.' If that happened today, we would lose a billion plus people to starvation.
Instauration did a ghastly article on Mexico City once. Can't find it, but this turned up in the quest -- an issue containing a droll account of wandering around communist Albania (was looking for it for yawl) and a Majority Renegade of the Year cover story on.... George Will! Don't miss its pithy letters to the editor section - - all identified by their 1st 3 ZIP digits only -- but whatever you do, catch that one- page cover story. Writing worthy of Sam and then some throughout each issue!
