Wars against defenseless Gazans are waged at its discretion. Institutionalized racism is official policy. So are land theft for exclusive Jewish development, extrajudicial executions, torture and other forms of abuse. Thousands of Palestinian political prisoners languish in Israel’s gulag, one of the world’s harshest, brutalized for wanting to live free on their own land in their own country. Israeli children and students are taught to hate Arabs from pre-school through doctoral level studies. A new high school civics textbook due out soon turns truth on its head, blaming Arab citizens for Israeli state terrorism. Political Science Professor Tamar Hermann worked on the book, calling it “educational negligence…a false historical account that serves the government,” state-sponsored propaganda, suppressing vital truths. Journalist/Ariel University lecturer Ehud Ya’ari called the book “scandalous…morally and factually wrong.” Education Ministry damage control claimed negative book comments don’t reflect it accurately, saying: “They are parts of a draft that has since been updated and not from the latest version. When the ministry issues the book, it will make it available to the public to allow an accurate and proper discussion.” Joint (Arab) List party head Ayman Odeh called the book “a continuation of the government’s campaign of incitement against Arab citizens…a mixture of lies and hatred.” Meretz party head Zehava Galon blasted what she called “subjugat(ing)” Israel’s (nonexistent) democratic character “to its Jewish one” exclusively. “(S)ubjects such as minority rights were limited or erased” in the text. She urged a Knesset committee of inquiry into its contents. In 2012, the Education Ministry removed a civics textbook from classrooms for disparaging Soviet immigrants. Arabs are considered gun-toting/knife-wielding terrorists, enemies of the state, ruthlessly persecuted and vilified - terrorized for not being Jews. Stephen Lendman lives in Chicago.
