At this point, I firmly believe you are truly engaged and invested in you and your family's survival for the long haul... ...and I'm VERY proud of you for that. Some survivors in the past have made the mistake of letting their guard down, and then when that tragedy struck soon after, they're stuck living the rest of their life in a windfall of GUILT and unwavering REGRET. MY REASONING: Firing a powerful rifle inside your home is likely to go through some walls, possibly injuring family or neighbors. Not to mention it could take a while to grab and fire. While on the other hand, a hand gun offers quick and easy access, better short range aim, and will also allow you to defend yourself as you walk the streets: something not so convenient with a heavy and visible rifle. So, while both gun types are ultimately essential, the HANDGUN is, "hands down", the FIRST gun of choice you should look into purchasing.
