The classic definition of “chutzpah” is the murderer who kills both his parents and then throws himself on the mercy of the court because he’s an orphan.
Officer Robert Rialmo of Chicago’s PD has gone that one better. When a young man named Quintonio LeGrier called the cops—always a mistake—due to a “domestic disturbance,” Rialmo responded and shot Quintonio. Six times, no less. (As we’ve come to expect with these executions, Rialmo’s version of affairs not only differs extraordinarily from his victim’s relatives but from what the physical evidence indicates, too.) And while that barrage killed poor Quintonio, the tragedy “has caused, and will continue to cause, Officer Rialmo to suffer extreme emotional trauma,” as his lawsuit puts it.
The attorney for Quintonio’s family aptly summarized this outrage: “That’s a new low even for the Chicago Police Department … First you shoot them, then you sue them.”
