Dear fellow libertarians of the world,

We need to have a serious heart to heart. The topic? Donald Trump.

Before we proceed and because I know your blood pressure is already rising, just let it out. Yell, curse, denounce the world, and strain your vocal chords. Not enough? Break your keyboards, smash your monitor, flip over your chair and send it clear across the room, knock over your desk over, and ruin your home.

Go ahead. Unleash your inner Bruce Banner.

Feel better now? Let’s proceed.

It’s been clear for months that everyone has an opinion about the controversial businessman and for the most part among libertarians, he’s not well received. Do I believe he would be a good President? Probably not. But I’m not going to be apart of the post-New Hampshire flock of Chicken Littles who believe the sky is falling because he won a primary that hasn’t voted for a non-incumbent President in almost three decades.

Senator Rand Paul spent months becoming less of a liberty candidate and more of an anti-Trump candidate. It was a rabid hatred that saw a lot of the Senator Paul headlines really proved he was serious when he said he would stop at nothing to stop The Donald.

Seriously? This is what former Congressman Ron Paul spent two presidential elections building a network for? To build a spawning pool of Trump Derangement Syndrome?

To be sure, President Trump is a bad idea. The only possible argument in favor of supporting his candidacy is to bring down the Republican Party, though Reince Priebus and the Republican National Committee has done an excellent job of that on their own.

But the aftermath of the New Hampshire primary has left many libertarians launching into DEFCON 5 because Donald Trump won the primary that in the past has selected Mitt Romney, Pat Buchanan, and John McCain twice. Stellar track record.

Seriously, we can calm down. Trump winning New Hampshire literally means nothing in the grand scheme of things.

The way the field is shaping up, this could drag all the way to the National Convention. What will happen there? The establishment will broker a compromise moderate who will take down Trump and one or more failed runner ups.

Until then, why are you helping the same establishment that burned Ron Paul?

Don’t like Donald Trump? Fine. Don’t support him. But this rhetoric over the arrival of the end times is absolute insanity. And in all honesty, there are more legitimate threats to liberty in this race like Senators Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio.

Life goes on. There’s a lot of primary time left, which means a lot of delegates left for opponents to earn and caucuses to rig to a degree that Debbie Wasserman Schultz would be proud of.

Until then, relax. Do something productive like support Rand Paul in the Senate or Thomas Massie and Justin Amash in the House, your favorite state and local liberty legislators and politicians, and work to enact change locally.

The world isn’t over because the second state of fifty casted votes. It’s the honest truth.

For liberty my friends,

-Chris Dixon

I voted for Libertarian presidential candidates in the past starting back in the 1980s. I also voted for Ralph Nader because I am an anti-war voter. By making General Michael Kelly former head of the DIA his primary foreign and military affairs adviser he signaled us that he does understand what is really happening. Kelly was the one who said Obama created ISIS. Trump is the least war like candidate. And that includes Bernie Sanders.

That's exactly why I support Trump.

Trump has a hundred ways to resolve international issues without putting troops on the ground or initiating war. He actually talks to people. He knows lots of billionaires who can offer trade deals, profit angles, etc to key individuals to resolve problems. He isn't a neocon who wants to overthrow all the governments in the ME (and elsewhere) so a handful of goons can steal their gold and national treasures and take control of their oil fields.

The only thing that is going to trip him up is the collapse of our economy and our currency - and probably a lot of banks.

Yeah, I thought the libertarians actually wanted change in this country. Here's their chance.

The establishment rigorously excluded abd censored the L-word til mebbe 2000. When Ron Paul started running for Prez in 2008 the press deigned to acknowldge its existence, because it didn't want to admit the presence of an actual conservative on the ticket. Now it's finally a common BUZZWORD but stricly in banal, useless contexts like the 2nd Dr. Paul. They did similar stuff with the word populist through the 1990s.

The L-word's meaning has never been easy to pin down. AFAIC, it should simply mean 2 things: people who love and work for true liberty with Jefferson as their mascot (small L), and big-L Libertarians both in and out of the Party -- people who want conservatism minus the ostensibly outmoded-sounding name and personal moral strictures.

In short, the latter are basically fiscal conservatives and moral liberals. They want tohave their cake and eat it too. There are actual conservatives among them but the L-word has never actually fit them.

In theory. In practice they are Republicans who want to smoke pot.

The author is still buried brain deep in establishment politics.

The system does not work, it needs to be salvoed.

For that we need a strongman, good or bad, to destroy the system, the establishment, in total, every last vestige of government.

All the pansies call for """"REFORM"""". Nonsense, government needs to be excised, entire agencies need to be done away with, term limits MUST BE ACCEPTED.

Trump will either be a Churchill or a Hitler, either way, lets get it on.

Amen! everyone going to deecee has promised a smaller, more accountable, more transparent, .gov and it has never happened in our lifetimes. Like many here, I'm more than ready to see what Trump can do to save this country while there's still a glimmer of hope for US.
