This writing contest entry comes from Crystal Moore. Crystal was gathering up tons of information about emergency preparedness, and some of it was stored only on her computer. She realized that if the power went out for an extended time, she wouldn't have her most important information, right when she needed it... "I have so many binders and notebooks full of information! But at first, I wasnt keeping paper records of the important information I found online. Then the thought came to me
What if the power goes out?" Crystal shares a 5 step process to make sure your most important references are easy to find when you really need them. I'm talking about the plastic bags you bring home from grocery stores and hardware stores. In some places there is a fee for each bag you use. In other places, single use bags are completely illegal, and stores aren't allowed to use them at all. "More and more cities around the U.S. are taking action, to ban plastic bags and limit their communities contributions to the bigger issue of plastic in the ocean. The trend is most popular along the coasts, where people routinely see the reality of plastic in the water." What do you think? Is this common sense, or ridiculous bureaucracy? Marjory is really in the mix now, touring Tarahumara farms and getting her hands in the dirt. You won't want to miss the pictures in this article. There are baby goats - a lot of them. Anthony even got some video so you can see the baby goats 'kidding' around... "Bernadino and his family are a group of about ten. They grow all of their own food and they live completely off grid, as do most of the Tarahumara that we met on this trip. They wear a combination of both western clothing and their own traditional styles. Their primary worldly possessions consist of a selection of hand tools, some pots and bowls, the ubiquitous hand crank grain grinder, and the Govt issued solar panel and light."
