In a report to the UN Human Rights Council, he said his best efforts to help improve the lives of Palestinian victims (were) frustrated every step of the way. He blasted Israeli ruthlessness, including its illegal Gaza blockade and daily violence against defenseless victims. He called its upsurge
a grim reminder of the unsustainable human rights situation in the Occupied Palestinians Territories, and the volatile environment it engenders. He called for an international investigation, demanded all Palestinian political prisoners be released, urged action to end Gazas siege. He blasted Israels deplorable administrative detentions, Palestinian victims held uncharged and uncharged, so-called secret (nonexistent) evidence withheld from lawyers defending them. (P)romptly charge or release all administrative detainees, he demanded. Wibisono like his predecessors were lawlessly harassed and prevented from doing their jobs. Human rights defenders arent safe in Israel. They risk arrest, physical violence and death threats. State terror is longstanding Israeli policy. So is blaming victims for its high crimes. During a Wednesday Knesset debate, Netanyahu railed out-of-control at Palestinians, accusing them of terror the way he always does. It stems from a culture of death, he bellowed, ignoring longstanding Israeli militarized occupation harshness, institutionalized racism, lawless settlements, slow-motion genocide, and fantasy democracy. Palestinian freedom fighters and international human rights defenders challenging Israeli ruthlessness face its full force - supported and encouraged by Washington. Stephen Lendman lives in Chicago.
