Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders are the outright winners of the New Hampshire primaries. A year ago no one would have ever expected that. Oddly enough the winner of Iowa, Ted Cruz, finished in a much distant third. But no sooner had the winners been announced than two of the more prominent Republicans decided their races were over. Carly Fiorina and Chris Christie both announced to supporters there was no sense in them going on any more. NBC News wrote this about Fiorina withdrawing: Former Hewlett-Packard executive Carly Fiorina announced Wednesday she will suspend her campaign after disappointing showings in the two opening contests of the GOP presidential primary. Fiorina finished with just four percent of the vote in the New Hampshire primary on Tuesday after an equally tough showing in the Iowa caucuses. She originally told supporters her campaign would continue on, but her prospects in South Carolina, Nevada and beyond looked bleak. While I suspend my candidacy today, I will continue to travel this country and fight for those Americans who refuse to settle for the way things are and a status quo that no longer works for them, she said in a statement. Strong debate performances last fall helped Fiorina gain some traction. But as other candidates surged, she faded. Fiorina missed the cut to make the final GOP debate ahead of the New Hampshire primary. Fiorina, the only woman in the Republican field, wrote on her Facebook page, To young girls and women across the country, I say: do not let others define you. Do not listen to anyone who says you have to vote a certain way or for a certain candidate because youre a woman. And MotherJones wrote this about Christie. After a disappointing sixth-place finish in the New Hampshire Republican primary Tuesday night, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will suspend his campaign for president, multiple outlets are reporting. CNN reported Wednesday morning that Christie is a realist who realized that he probably wouldnt qualify for the main stage in Saturdays GOP debate, and also realized that the fundraising was going to dry up. After the results came in Tuesday night, Christie told a crowd of supporters that his message was stood for by a lot of folks in New Hampshire, just not enough. Not enough tonight. And thats okay. Christie said that after speaking with his wife, theyd decided to go back home to New Jersey on Wednesday to take a deep breath, see what the final results are
and make a decision about how we move from here in this race. Christie had a strong showing in the Republican debate in New Hampshire on Saturday, and he may have dealt a mortal blow to Sen. Marco Rubios campaign by harping on the freshman senators lack of executive experience and his reliance on a memorized 25-second speech, which Rubio then made the mistake of repeating almost verbatim. Rubio, who had momentum after a strong third-place finish in the Iowa caucuses, fell to fifth in New Hampshire. But if Christie helped bring Rubio down, he may not have done much to lift himself up as his campaign draws its final breaths. Perhaps most surprising is just how poorly other contenders did. Dr. Ben Carson didnt win a single delegators vote, and John Kasich, whos been been a virtual no-show in the race for the past few months, came in second. Pure madness if you ask people whove been paying attention. Are you surprised by what happened
and more importantly what do you think is going to happen in the coming months? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below. Poster Comment: Shake the bushes and rake the leaves. Post Comment Private Reply Ignore Thread
