Contractor-turned-whistleblower Edward Snowden told the New Hampshire Liberty Forum on Saturday he would return to America if the government guaranteed him a fair trial and allowed the jury to distinguish between “right and wrong.” More than 400 people gathered in a conference room at the Radisson Center in New Hampshire on Saturday to hear former NSA contractor speak via Skype from Russia.

Snowden announced he would return to the United States if a fair trial were conducted.

“I’ve told the government I would return if they would guarantee a fair trial where I can make a public interest defense of why this was done and allow a jury to decide,” Snowden was quoted by ABC as saying. The organizers of the event did not allow the media to video record his remarks.

I wouldn't trust that he would get a fair trial even if they told him so in writing. Stay in Russia for your own safety.

Snowden would probably 1) die in a Michael Hastings style accident or 2) die of natural causes like Atonin Scalia with a pillow over your head or 3) commit suicide just like Vince Foster in Ft Marcy Park.

A fair trial can not be "guaranteed" for Ed Snowden so the request is laughable similar to the idea that the US government operates by the US Constitution.

Note the proviso that the jury be entitled to decide right or wrong. He's not delusional.

even if they told him so in writing.

The government is legally entitled to lie to you and to Snowden.

He can't be that stupid, can he?

LOL insanity to think the jury won't be tampered with. Not to mention it would be an Admiral Court proceeding. He's delusional.

Snowden said he didn’t agree with some of his former co-workers’ argument that constitutional rights, including the Fourth Amendment, were no longer relevant in the wake of 9/11.

Constitutional Rights are such that you must claim them or lose them. If you do not bring this up then you are toast. ;)

If he ever got to face a jury, the jury would not be told of its right to judge the law as well as the defendant. Seems that's Snowden's requirement before he will submit himself to the US justice system.

No one can stack a jury like federal court clerks.

"First, we're gonna try ya, then we're gonna hang ya!"

Federal juries often consist of a majority of former jurors that convicted defendants, and they likely feel that "you wouldn't be here if you weren't guilty". The "inertia of the majority and the foreman" can be relied upon to sway jurors new to the experience.

And the obligation is to convict lest they "do a disservice to the govt." Most if not all jurors who exonerate aren't called again.

. The "inertia of the majority and the foreman" can be relied upon to sway jurors new to the experience.

I recall that Terry Nichols jury was deadlocked 11-1 for acquittal until one of the jurors, an engineer who should not have been allowed, swayed the other 11 to change their vote.

Well said. And since the NSA has every email you've ever sent, and knows every person you've ever called on your cell phone (and whom they all called), the web sites you've visited, the google searches you've made, every credit card or debit card purchase, etc. -- you and I won't even be called for jury duty in the first place.

In my district, the feds use a 17 page questionnaire to pre-screen potential jurors. What organizations do you or have you belonged to? What bumper stickers do you have on your car? Etc.

The best criminal lawyer in my state confirmed everything you just said when he told me, "Juries like to convict."

Jurors feel it is their duty to the government to ruin the life of anyone whom the government has accused of a crime. Christians are the worst; they believe it is their duty to God to do so.
