Chad Sweet is a Republican political consultant based in Washington, D.C. Sweet is currently the campaign chairman for Ted Cruz's 2016 presidential campaign. He co- founded the Chertoff Group, a business and security consulting firm, in 2009. Sweet has worked for the Central Intelligence Agency, several financial institutions, Department of Homeland Security, The Texas Lyceum and has served as finance chairman to Ted Cruz's 2012 Senate campaign. Career
Chad Sweet, a Texas native, graduated from Columbia University in 1991 with a B.A. in political science. From 1991 to 1993, Sweet was the directorate of operations for the Central Intelligence Agency. According to his biography on the Chertoff Group website, Sweet was involved in clandestine operations for the CIA.[1]
In 1994, Sweet worked at Morgan Stanley as a investment banking analyst. He started at Goldman Sachs in 1996 working in Asia. Sweet eventually became vice president of Goldman Sachs.[2] After a 10 year tenure at Goldman, Sweet became the special assistant to the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Michael Chertoff. Chertoff had been appointed by George W. Bush (R) in 2005. In 2006, Sweet became Chertoff's chief of staff.[3]
From 2006 to 2009, Sweet served as the director of The Texas Lyceum, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Dallas, Texas. The Texas Lyceum is a organization aimed at creating discussions on socio-political matters within Texas.[4]
In late 2009, Sweet joined Michael Chertoff in founding the Chertoff Group, a firm that is involved in business strategy, mergers, acquisitions and security service. [5][3] The Chertoff Group has offices in New York, London, Washington, D.C., Austin, Houston and Menlo Park, Calif.
According to his bio on the Chertoff Group website, Sweet is also a Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) registered representative (series 7, 24, 63, 79) and registered representative of Chertoff Capital, LLC, a subsidiary of The Chertoff Group. Sweet is also a member of The Association for Corporate Growth National Capital Chapter, the nonprofit Gen Next and the Young Presidents' Organization (YPO). He is a senior fellow at the George Washington University Homeland Security Policy Institute, a member of the FBI's InfraGard Advisory Board and a senior fellow at the Center for Naval Analysis.[1][6]
