There is only one possible choice: a brilliant economist and historian, a long- time public servant (no quotation marks needed), an expert on government, a life- long outsider and opponent of the establishment, and–among many other virtues–a man who would bring theoretical rigor to your inchoate non-interventionism. I have only one question: would Ron Paul take it? If not, Fed chairman is another possibility.

UPDATE From Jay Stephenson:

Ron Paul would be gold (no pun intended), but if the rumors turn out to be true and he picks Joe Scarborough, I honestly think that would be a winning ticket. I’m not a fan of Scarborough, but it would be apolitically smart choice. He’s finished if he picks someone like Paul Ryan or Tom Cotton.

UPDATE From Chandra Duggirala, MD:

For VP, what we really need is the great Lew Rockwell to get a blow torch, go in, and incinerate the vipers.

UPDATE from Dale Johnson:

Ron as VP would also keep Trump safe from assassination attempts.

UPDATE from Chris Sullivan:

I agree with Dale Johnson, but Andrew Napolitano would do the same thing.

UPDATE from Rick Banks:

Love what you do. Know what? I need to donate some some money to your site! I’ll give $100.

I don’t think Ron Paul would accept the nomination. He’s too principled. Trump has said that anyone killing a cop gets the death sentence (what if it’s in self- defense?). He has said that he will go beyond waterboarding in terms of torture. He thinks Apple should be forced to be the govt’s slave and create a backdoor for it. And I like how one commenter elsewhere put it, and how Judge Napolitano put it–the NSA has this info, why not just go to them?

And after talking to my sister, I see something she sees. I really don’t think Trump understands the power of the military industrial congressional contractor complex. I think they will co-op him. The corruption is just that bad, and I don’t think he has a plan to deal with it, and to fire those who will fight him tooth and nail if he some much as makes a gesture to disturb their flow of money or power. He might fix the immigration problem, but I think his position on civil liberties and freedom would make even a billy goat puke.

UPDATE from Russ Lemley:

It’s funny you mention the possibility of Ron Paul being Trump’s veep candidate. I actually thought about this myself. In my humble opinion it would be a masterstroke for three reasons. First, it would destroy any possible argument that Trump can’t handle a strong personality that doesn’t always with agree with him. While Dr. Paul is always a gentleman, I certainly don’t expect him to change his mind just because Trump doesn’t like what he thinks. Second, such a selection would totally electrify the campaign. No one would talk about anything else. The tizzy the establishment would throw would be entertaining for that reason alone! Third, having Dr. Paul as a VP would mean Trump would never be subject to impeachment. “You don’t wanna deal with me? Fine. Then you’ll need to deal with him.” [Cue shivers down spine.]

From your lips…

Professional, lifetime politicians come with baggage.

We need a fresh start after a complete house cleaning, a politician as VP would enter office with an effort to become President.

His more immediate job would be to guard Trump against assassination by being even more unacceptable as president.

Trump had better get some advisors that'll have him better prepared for debate. No way he should have allowed that little homo to best him last night. My response would have been to ask Rubio how many businesses has he owned or operated.

Ron Paul said he won't endorse Trump, so that makes him unlikely to be VP.

I believe they're beyond the point of swaying anybody. By now, most have chosen sides. It'll be fun watching the GOP cutting their own throats, though.

Smart.

Watching the debates is enlightening by paying attention to WHAT IS NOT MENTIONED.

First time in years that the politicians have NOT promised goodies by the basket full.. No mention of lifting blacks out of poverty, no free college for everyone, no expanding food stamps, on and on.

I only voted for Ron Paul because he is anti-war. He does not understand how to end a Depression. Letting the Depression run its course would destroy America.

Ted is intelligent and a Harvard graduate. His only problem was in target selection. And if Trump should die, he's president.

I don't think that is a particular concern of Ron's. If he accepted the VP slot it wouldn't be so he could be Trump's shield.

Maybe Rand would do. Or Jessie Ventura.

Personally I think that's plenty of that kind of talk. The fedgoons aren't going to pounce on us tomorrow, true, but why give them fodder for their files on 4um? This is pure indictment candy. Juries love it -- so nice and simple.

Those who aren't activists may think that bell will never toll for them, but it ain't necessarily so.
