Breaking: 1 Presidential Candidate Just Changed Their Position On An Assault Rifle Ban

Screen Shot 2016-03-04 at 5.02.12 PM

The ever loathsome assault rifle is something liberals love to hate.

If you listen to them they would say the assault rifle is the most dangerous thing on the planet, that’s why they want them banned so badly.

What you might not have known is up until a few days ago Donald Trump supported a ban on assault rifles. Now, not so much.

Politico notes that one of those “flips” was reversing position on his prior support for banning the civilian ownership of common semi-automatic rifles and pistols that Trump and his fellow Democrats have long demonized as “assault weapons.”

Donald Trump on Thursday night said he no longer supports a ban on assault weapons, another in a series of policy reversals during the Republican debate.

Stressing that he is a strong defender of the Second Amendment, Trump commented that past shooting incidents could have been prevented or lessened in impact if more people could carry weapons.

“But in 2000, you wrote in your book, ‘I generally oppose gun control but I support the ban on assault weapons,'” moderator Bret Baier queried.

“I don’t support it anymore. I do not support the ban on assault [weapons],” Trump affirmed.

A lot of people are worried Trump will flip flop on this issue again, and that it might happen after he’s won the election for President.

Trump has said he’s a staunch supporter of the second amendment. Many people call that into question considering how he supported an assault weapons ban a number of years ago.

An "assault rifle" is one with selective fire that you can switch from semi-auto to full auto and back again. Standard semi-auto rifles are no such thing.

To the typical uninformed anti-gunner, ANY gun that can be used for anything other than bird hunting is an assault rifle.

Some think a flash suppressor makes it one, others think a pistol grip makes it one, still others think detachable magazines make it one.

But you're right, a REAL assault rifle has a select fire switch in order to set it to fire fully automatically.

Most civilians would find it extremely difficult, AND expensive, to purchase one. In fact, it's impossible for civilians to buy (or even possess) automatic weapons made after 1986, ever since Ronald Reagan signed the absurdly named Firearm Owners Protection Act, which banned civilians from possessing machine guns (automatic weapons) manufactured after passage of the bill, which was May 19, 1986.

An assault weapon is anything that is used against another person be it a firearm, a hammer, an ax, a screwdriver, a vehicle, anything that causes harm or death is a weapon of assault.

The left's screeching against "assault weapons" is just a straw-man argument to further control us.

(Donald's sons may have straightened him out on what is the real meaning of an assault weapon.)

Actually, not exactly true. The ban ended production of new full autos, but those still available may be purchased if the owner obtains the $200 FEDERAL tax stamp, and they reside in one of the 20 some odd states that don't prohibit full auto ownership.

The singer of GODSMACK, SULLY ERNA bought a crusty, POS Italian grease gun and he paid thousands for it. Before the ban he could have bought an M16 for that price. Now, it would cost over 6 Gs for an MP5 and over 30Gs for an authentic 1928 Tommy Gun.

You can GOOGLE full auto and check the prices.

Like I said, and you even said (mistakingly saying that full autos are no longer manufactured) CIVILIANS cannot buy full auto weapons made after 1986. They can buy those made BEFORE that date, but not after.

And they sure in hell are still making them, it's just that they're only sold to law enforcement, the military, foreign governments, and various terrorist groups in the Middle East.

Not only that, but you need a Class 3 license from BATF to buy one. Plus they do an extensive background check on you. This is more than most people can afford anyway. Both of those are quite costly. ;)

Ah, I forgot about them. They get other good stuff too, like hand grenades for instance.

That's what I meant about it being difficult, where the paperwork can take months. And that's IF the ATF approves the transfer.

However, the "Class 3 license" that you mention is only required if you plan on dealing in NFA weapons, where it's a class of SOT (Special Occupational Tax) required of a holder of a FFL (Federal Firearms License) who deals in NFA weapons.

Federal Firearms License [Wiki]

NFA weapons are defined as machine guns, silencers, short barreled rifles and shotguns, destructive devices, or (AOW) Any Other Weapon..

OK, my buddy, Dave, in Illinois is a manufacturer. He makes Austrian-style FALs, .308 rifles, among other things. www.dsarms.com/

I like those FALs, where they have a bit more firepower than anything shooting 5.56.

The recoil difference is barely noticeable. I like the fact that you can dial in the gas pressure to compensate for different ammo loads to get the best balance between lower recoil and perfect operation.

I worked with Dave on the State of Illinois. He went into business with another guy that worked with the State. He tried to take the business over and Dave kicked him out. I wonder what he's doing now. ;)
