Miesha Tate explains why she's voting GOP in the presidential election

As Miesha Tate waits to find out who the first challenger to her UFC women’s bantamweight title will be, the freshly minted champ had the opportunity to sit down and talk about a few things outside of fighting with Maxim magazine. In the interview, Tate discussed being in her first movie as a lead in “Fight Valley,” launching her podcast and the origins of her nickname “Cupcake.”

Then the conversation turned to politics and whom Tate was going to vote for in the coming presidential election.

“I’m probably going to get a lot of flack for this but I feel that we’ve been Democratic for too long and we need balance,” Tate said. “We need a Republican in office.”

With the controversial Donald Trump appearing to be the frontrunner for the GOP nomination, does that mean that Tate is throwing her endorsement behind the business tycoon?

“I don’t know enough about Cruz,” Tate said while adding that she plans on doing some more research before casting her ballot this November. But she did manage to come to Trump’s defense about one thing that she has dealt with in the past: failure.

“People talk crap about all of Trump’s failed businesses but failing isn’t always a telltale sign that you’re bad at something,” Tate said. “Usually, people who fail at something are at least willing to try and probably have succeeded more times than they have failed.”

Tate has an 18-5 record, so she definitely attest to the notion that she’s succeeded more than she has failed and shouldn’t be pigeonholed only by her failure to beat Ronda Rousey.

But maybe there’s a little bit more to this as they also share a common enemy in Rousey. After Rousey was knocked out by Holm, Trump took a shot at the former champion.

“Glad to see @RondaRousey lost her championship fight last night. Was soundly beaten - not a nice person!" Trump tweeted.

Tate likely agrees with Trump’s sentiments about her arch-rival and perhaps the two share more things in common than they are aware of.
