War, War, War See other War, War, War Articles Title: Farcical Syrian Peace Talks Rigged to Fail Farcical Syrian Peace Talks Rigged to Fail by Stephen Lendman Washington and its rogue partners want war, not peace. US aggression followed by endless conflict is proof positive - in Syria and all other US post-9/11 war theaters. Obama and neocons infesting his administration want regime change, Syrian sovereignty destroyed, its people having no say over who’ll lead them. Ongoing talks in Geneva aren’t about reaching equitable conflict resolution. US/Saudi backed opposition elements want unconditional surrender, what’s best for long-suffering Syrians ruled out. On Friday, Syrian Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi stressed what Assad, Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem, and other government officials said numerous times. The issue of who’ll lead Syria is not up for discussion in Geneva or anywhere else. It’s solely the prerogative of the Syrian people to “be decided…in a democratic procedure. And they will never discuss it with anybody,” al-Zoubi made clear. Direct talks with US/Saudi backed High Negotiations Committee (HNC) terrorist groups are ruled out because they don’t “reflect the will of Syrians…instead” represent countries wanting their sovereign state destroyed. Russian UN envoy Vitaly Churkin accused Washington of having a secret Syrian agenda, doing nothing to stop terrorists and weapons pouring across Turkey’s border into the country, as well as failing to insist on Syrian Kurdish participation in peace talks. Russia’s Foreign Ministry reported “(a)n intensification of the flows of contraband (Soviet era) weaponry” from Turkey to terrorists in Syria - the international community taking no action to stop it by demanding closure of border areas and other measures. Ceasefire is more myth than reality, peace talks going nowhere, Assad wrongfully blamed for multiple daily violations by terrorist elements. Washington and its rogue partners insist he must go, demanding he have no role in a future Syrian government - a flagrant international law violation, a perversion of democracy, anathema to US-led Western and most regional states. Separately, Syria’s Higher Judicial Committee for Elections announced results of Wednesday’s general elections. The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) said committee head Judge Hisham al-Shaar “announced the names of the candidates who won seats at the People’s Assembly at a press conference, in which he said that judicial subcommittees in provinces finished tallying the votes and sent in the results which showed that the eligible voters in Syria numbered 8,834,994 people, of which 5,085,444 voted in the elections, with a participation rate of 57.56%.” No further elaboration was posted on SANA’s web site so far. Pro-government candidates won an overwhelming victory as expected, Syrian democracy shaming America’s money controlled sham process. Stephen Lendman lives in Chicago.
