War, War, War See other War, War, War Articles Title: Netanyahu Hands Defense Portfolio to Ultranationalist Extremist Netanyahu Hands Defense Portfolio to Ultranationalist Extremist by Stephen Lendman On Wednesday, Netanyahu reportedly brought defrocked/reinstated/former foreign minister, ultranationalist extremist Avigdor Lieberman into his coalition regime as defense minister. He represents the worst of Israel’s lunatic fringe, an embarrassment at best, an Arab-hating hawk, risking greater regional conflict than already. Earlier he demanded Israeli Arab citizens declare loyalty to a “Jewish, Zionist, and democratic (sic) state”, and perform military or equivalent service as a condition for a national identity card signifying citizenship. He’s perhaps the most dangerous among a rogue’s gallery of fascist Israeli politicians - a greater threat to regional peace than already. He supports executing Palestinians accused of terrorism, wants Palestine’s legitimate Hamas government toppled, and once suggested Israel could bomb Egypt’s Aswan Dam in any future confrontation with Egypt. Both countries signed a peace treaty in 1979. Likudnik MK Benny Begin called his appointment “delusional…express(ing) irresponsibility toward the security establishment and towards all the citizens of Israel.” Analyst Gideon Levy twittered “(w)ith Lieberman as defense minister, it’s time to head for the bomb shelters.” During Israel’s summer 2014 naked aggression on Gaza, he accused Netanyahu of not being tough enough, incapable of facing down Hamas, confronting Iran and defending the country - despite no nations or groups threatening it. Why does Netanyahu want Lieberman replacing current defense minister Moshe Ya’alon (a former IDF chief of staff)? Coalition government with his Yisrael Beiteinu members increases his razor-thin majority by six additional seats. Opposition Zionist Union leader Issac Herzog said talks on joining Netanyahu’s coalition government ended Tuesday night. On Wednesday, Lieberman accepted Netanyahu’s offer to become defense minister - despite earlier calling him a “liar, cheater and crook.” “An unnamed source close to Netanyahu said Ya’alon may be offered the foreign ministry portfolio. Joint (Arab) List MK Dov Henin called Netanyahu and Lieberman “united through extremism, racism, trampling political rivals, incitement, continuing the cycle of violence and the wars while selling our present and future to tycoons.” Will escalated war on Syria follow?
