Gary Johnson played up his general election chances He blasted the "rigged nature" of the general election debate process

Orlando, Florida (CNN)Libertarians on Sunday selected a presidential ticket headed by former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson, who lit into presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump on immigration and a range of other issues. At the party convention in Orlando, Florida, Johnson got his preferred running mate, former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld, in a weekend gathering that drew sharp contrasts with the major party candidates -- Trump and Hillary Clinton, the likely Democratic nominee.

Johnson described the real estate mogul's immigration policies as "just racist," particularly the Republican's call to deport 11 million undocumented people currently in the country.

Libertarian activists contend their ticket could play a pivotal role in the 2016 campaign, with Trump and Clinton both viewed unfavorably by large swaths of the electorate. Even grabbing a small percentage of the vote in key states could affect the Electoral College calculus.

Trump was a frequent target of criticism of many Libertarians at the weekend convention. In addition to immigration participants particularly took issue with Trump's stated positions on international trade and national security -- all of which stand in firm opposition to a party that tends to favor lax immigration restrictions, free trade and is skeptical of military intervention. Austin Petersen, one of the presidential candidates who lost to Johnson, called Trump a fascist, a term regularly echoed throughout the convention.

At one point on Sunday, an announcer told the convention that Trump had begun attacking Johnson and Weld. The audience roared in approval at the news. It was not immediately apparent what attacks the announcer was referring to, but in a statement to the New York Times about Weld, Trump said, "I don't talk about his alcoholism."

The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment Sunday night.

Johnson was the party's nominee in 2012 and once again won the position despite backlash from the party's more radical Libertarian wing.

Weld, for his part, took a somewhat more nuanced tone toward the Libertarians' rivals.

"Someone doesn't have to be disaffected with Ms. Clinton to think that we have a good story," Weld said. "One doesn't have to be Never Trump to see that we were two of the most fiscally conservative governors in the United States." Thanking the Libertarian delegates after his victory, Johnson played up his general election chances.

"At a minimum, I think we're in the presidential debates," Johnson said to cheers.

Johnson also called for inclusion in more national polling surveys.

"This is another voice at the table," Johnson said. "How about some skeptic at the table when it comes to these military interventions?"

In the first round of voting, Johnson reached 49.5 percent of the vote, according to the official party total, just shy of the majority needed for victory. His nearest opponents, Petersen and John McAfee, reached 21 and 14 percent respectively. On the second round of voting, Johnson clinched the nomination with 55.8 percent of the vote. But his preferred choice for the vice-presidential nomination, Weld, also came up just short of 50 percent on the first round of balloting, leading to a second vote, which he won with just over 50 percent of the vote.

Many Libertarian activists were skeptical of Weld, arguing his 1991-97 gubernatorial tenure saw too much growth in government and new gun control measures. But Johnson argued Weld could bring momentum and fundraising power to the Libertarian ticket, and the delegates obliged him.

"I pledge to you that I will stay with the Libertarian Party for life," Weld said before the vice presidential nominating contest.

What is Libertarianism?

Johnson received almost 1 percent of the general election vote in 2012, but said that in a year of unpopular offerings from the Democratic and Republican parties, he stands a chance of breaking through.

A recent national poll had Johnson receiving 10 percent of support from registered voters, drawing his strongest support from respondents under 35. Another national poll showed 44 percent of registered voters would want a third party to run against Trump and Hillary Clinton, the likely Democratic nominee. The Libertarian Party is the only third party with ballot access in 50 states. This means Johnson will be the only alternative to Trump and Clinton available to all voters in this election.

Just before the nomination vote, Johnson said if he were to win the nomination, he would head to New York on Monday for media opportunities.

Johnson, who served as New Mexico governor as a Republican from 1995-2003, said too few people knew what a Libertarian is, and that his job is to change that. Libertarian National Committee chair Nicholas Sarwark spoke to press following the nomination process, discussing the Libertarian Party's outreach and fundraising efforts. Sarwark said the party had established a "back channel" to the Koch brothers, in the hopes the wealthy libertarian-leaning funders donate to the Libertarian Party. Sarwark also said he had been speaking to Matt Kibbe, former president of conservative advocacy group Freedomworks, about supporting the party's nominee.

The convention at times got rowdy. Many candidates issued lengthy protests and changed strategies throughout the day. Delegates stormed through the halls with signs and chants. At one point, a man did a striptease on stage until he sat before the audience -- and live television -- in nothing but his underwear. "Never underestimate the ability of Libertarians to shoot themselves in the foot," said Christopher Barber, a delegate from Georgia, said before and after the display on stage.

CNN's Ashley Killough contributed to this report.

"Never underestimate the ability of Libertarians to shoot themselves in the foot,"

If they get 1% of the vote this fall, I'll be shocked.

My guess is that they will do better than that, assuming they attract money from the one percenters.

"We are the only outsiders that have a viable path to win."

I have to agree with John McAfee that the Libertarian Party has, already, been too co-opted by the Republicans to make me feel comfortable.

Libertarians are even bigger sell-outs than the Republicans. This time they have two former Republican governors on the ticket who should be able to attract more votes than they usually get.

Weld was a very liberal Republican. I don't see how he is considered to be a Libertarian. Johnson is on record as defending his statement that sending illegals home and building a Wall was like the Holocaust.

Per FP:

Libertarian Delegates Boo Frontrunner Johnson, Running Mate Weld As 'Failed Republicans'

05-29-2016 • Prison Planet

Mr. Johnson was booed by delegates at the Libertarian Party convention Friday during a preliminary debate after he described Mr. Weld's candidacy as "beyond my wildest dreams" and called the former Massachusetts governor "the original Libertarian."

Mr. Johnson's comments came after Austin Petersen, a consultant who's also running for the party's presidential nomination, criticized Mr. Weld for endorsing Republican Mitt Romney in 2012 instead of Mr. Johnson, who was the Libertarian presidential candidate.

"Why didn't your VP pick endorse you?" asked Mr. Petersen — who has called on delegates to stop nominating "failed Republicans" — at the nominating convention in Orlando, Florida.............

People who cry that it is "racist" to secure ones border or to deport illegal aliens are insane lunatics. Even visitors to Mexico and every other nation on earth must show their permission papers to the immigration officer. If you don't have it you will be arrested and or deported. That is a good thing. These people in the article are a waste of time and not even worth mentioning.

As usual the "auto link" feature on 4um never works. It has nothing to do with the "s" on the url, either, as some claim. Also, what's up with that giant tagline about africa?

You merely have to copy and paste the URL if interested (I appreciate that you apparently are) and delete any extra zeroes. Occasionally a URL gets damaged beyond that point.

The tagline merely documents my frequent thesis here that the good people are doing this world as much damage as the bad ones -- as often driven by harebrained readings of the Bible. Good intentions and all that. I think this factor hovers in most people's blind spot. Incidentally I consider white overpopulation as serious a problem as any other flavor.

Dr. Pierce once wrote an article all about how the Christian schools set up by whites in Africa are what taught the blax there to hate and resent whiteness. Their classes actually told the nubians they were oppressed, exploited etc. This was true in a sense but the answer was certainly not to kill off the farmers and install commie thug governments across the continent.

1. I have found that when a url doesn't link properly by the severely inoperable 4um auto link, it is distorted beyond repair, shortened so that parts of it aren't visible, (thus disabling proper pasting) as well as having random spaces added, which also invalidates a pasted url. Whenn I want someone to paste a link i post, i purposely do not use the Url autolink because by just pasting the link normally, the url will appear in its actual form instead of a screwed up one.

That is the question. It's a sure thing it kept mushrooming as long as the hated whites were in charge.

I could post un-linked URLs but then I'd get rapped by somebody for not linking -- and they'd still have breaks in them.

I've never had a url post incorrectly when I do not use the dreaded & completely unfunctional 4um "auto link."

Only when auto link is used does the link not work. That is why I prefer html brackets when posting a link.

I'm too much of a conspiracy theorist to call them "insane". By not securing our borders, just like the Europeans will not secure theirs, the intent in Pat Buchanan's words is to create, "an American Union of North and South America, its parliament sitting in Panama, with power to impose laws on the United States, and a high court whose decisions overruled those of the U.S. Supreme Court"

You and I have discussed various aspects of its cultural archaeology. Dylan bro't it new fame with his hate-whitey song Hurricane ("co-written with Jacques Levy" -- wikid). I trust but don't assume you agree Carter was guilty? Our pundits have proven it to my satisfaction.

1. I have found that when a url doesn't link properly by the severely inoperable 4um auto link, it is distorted beyond repair, shortened so that parts of it aren't visible,

This partially sounds like what happens when posting an article. The Source URL, if it is very long, is not displayed in it's entirety. The center is removed and replaced with "...". This allows the URL to appear on one line without distorting the formating of the articles. The link, however, is not effected. It retains it's full content, so when you click on the abbreviated URL that's displayed, you go to the correct web page. The Source URL in the article of this thread demonstrates that. This has nothing to do with the auto-hyperlink operation when posting comments, however.

(thus disabling proper pasting) as well as having random spaces added, which also invalidates a pasted url. Whenn I want someone to paste a link i post, i purposely do not use the Url autolink because by just pasting the link normally, the url will appear in its actual form instead of a screwed up one.

I am not seeing this issue. I posted a couple links above, with and without the auto link, and it appears to work exactly as it should. I can only conclude that differences in functionality are due to browser differences.

Another factor might just be the evolution of browsers over the years. I first starting writing the code that drives 4um 14 years ago, last did any substantial work on it maybe 5 years ago, and browsers have obviously grown and matured a lot during that time.

I'm happy to look into this if Artisan is willing to work with me on it. I would start by asking what browser and operating system is being used.

Thanks for your concern. Your autolinks you posted above did indeed work fine for me.

I would not suggest you waste your valuable time on this auto link issue for my sake. That is not why I posted about it. I was just trying to explain to NN that the links posted by others using auto link have almost never worked for me. If its that big of an issue I can Google the artice or they can post an actual link using html which takes 2 seconds.

I think youre right it has something to do with the browser.

I am completely computer illiterate and don't even remember what browser I use. If I heard the name i'd recognize it. Its not chrome its a newer one.

Sometimes I use my laptop and sometime my phone. But anyway at least for my sake, please don't sweat this Petty stuff. It doesnt matter.

I would really really like greater simplicity in posting stuff, Doug -- via simple pasting if that's feasible as in my prior forum obsession, now defunct. Thanks so much for everything!

How the world was lost:The African population of Zimbabwe had increased from an estimated 300,000 in 1890 to 7 million in 1980. This phenomenal increase was the result of the development of a modern infrastructure, first-world health standards and the bountiful crop harvests produced by the white Rhodesian farmers.
By July 2006, the population had almost doubled to 13 million, the result of a symbiotic relationship that had been forged between the 3,400 commercial farmers and the other inhabitants. (IMPACT newsletter)
