Horeb where Moses received the Ten Commandments and it just might be from THIS location that Jerusalem gets what it deserves as a "judgment" from the Almighty for ALL of the evil that these very evil people that live there have done to the world. Koestler did a hell of a job putting a LOT of historical facts in that book, some of which surprised even me, and I read s LOT of history, but he uncovers a lot of gems that people should know about. One of the BIGGEST surprises for me was to learn that the true Russians are descendants of Sweden!!! China is generally very minimalist and non-interventionist when it comes to foreign policy and avoids confrontation with external states no matter how small they may be. The Chinese never had a global empire or colonized states overseas, even Japan across the pond. To an extent they were quite insular. I think the agreement is this. Bulk of fighting will go to the Syrians, if they are stretched it falls to the Iranians to back them up, if the Iranians are stretched then the Russians join in....if the Russians were not able to do anything, I think the Chinese would go in. However the Russians overall are winning in Syria so China wants to stay out. Also the clever and prudent Chinese don't like to offend anyone or cause controversy so them having a less prominent role in Syria doesn't offend Sunni nationalists, Wahabists in the region. You mentioned manpower, but manpower is not an issue. There are tens of millions of Shia in Iraq just across the border from China, who unlike the Chinese do not have to be transported half-way across the world, fed and supplied and who unlike the Chinese can speak Arabic and would be used to the local environment. China's manpower advantage is a non-issue here in my opinion. As @Leroy has said, China is also helping out economically weakening the US economically and buying it up. I suspect (perhaps even read..can't remember) there is an agreement between Russia and China that Russia will take care of her zone, which includes Syria and China will take care of her zone which includes the south China sea. I've said the Chinese are somewhat insular and non-confrontational, however they have been totally different when it comes to south-China sea. They are being "aggressive" there so that 1 billion Chinese do not get suffocated navally through the narrow Malacca straits. So just to end. If China did send half a million Chinese soldiers to Syria they would have to be transported, fed, rely on locals in a language they couldn't speak etc. The tens of millions of Iraqi Shias that could be mobilized have none of these disadvantages. Remember the US went to Vietnam with lots of soldiers and still got whipped, so numbers doesn't mean everything. The Russians i feel are doing this for a few reasons, one it is their moral obligation as Syria has stuck by it through thick and thin and Putin i feel is a very moral religious person, Russia also has a naval base and the only one in the mediteranian which is a big plus, then we also have weapons sales. The biggest reason i feel in conjunction the the previous said is that Russia knows the west want to decimate all those siding with Russia to weaken it, Russia and all those with it know they will be the west's next targets as is with Iran, China and the South Americas ( as we can see what is happening now over there). Syria to me (not because i am one) was the symbol and the cradle of civilisation, if they destroy that according to their (jewish) biblical teachings then they are on their way to "forcing" their prophecies. Syria should be the red line for all the people in the world, for after Syria we all know the plan and who will be next, which means we (even in the western world) are ALL their targets.
