When I worked concert security, when the show was over, the crew would decide where they wanted to go. They were talking about going to this place for quarter beers. I told them, "Why don't you come over to the neighborhood place. They will buy you a drink or two." They went for quarter beers and I went to the neighborhood place. As soon as I walked in, the guy behind the bar says, "Cowboy! We're happy to see you. We got a bachelor's party going on next door and our doorman didn't show up." Great story! Including the quarter beer part -- trying to remember if I've ever drunken one. A mug in my 1970s world was 50c. One of the thousands of truly sorry things about the Shining City On A Hill is the fact that marriage is the funeral of most guys' male friendships. (Is there a Lerner and Lowe song joshing about this?) Science has acknowledged it as a problem. Another is the existence of the Rat Pack even though it's "gone" now (cancerous culture stays embedded forever).
